Yup, agree - great show. Saw (but did not speak to) Chris Nevard, Missy (I assume), Ant, Captain Kernow, Mr Harrap, and two other people I recognised from photos but whose names escape me. Mr Harrap was turned out as smart as ever, but I sadly noted the tie had come off by the afternoon :O  (not surprised though, it was getting mighty hot in there).

Great layouts throughout, I particularly liked the Scottish curved one with sound.

I was there at 10:30 and I was already further back in the carpark than I had been the previous year at 11. Queued to get in (bit nippy) and I think I eventually hit the hall at around 10:50 odd. Did several circuits, bought a few bits, and left at 3:45pm. Good day out, well done David and to everyone else involved.

Hi,

As echoced by others, Railex was once again another brillant show!

I was helping with car park stewarding from 10:30 until 11:30 (as well as 13:30 to 14:30), from what I could see it was the busiest time for the car parking. By 11:30, just an hour after the show opened, all three car parks (main, grass and hospital) were completely and utterly full up and I was the unlucky one to tell everyone who had come in between 11:15 and 11:30 to turn around and head into Aylesbury. If you were asked to turn around by a teenager with glasses, that was me! :sorry: :keeporder: Most people took it with good grance, but there were some who took it badly, but that's another story!

Good selection of traders and layouts on offer, partically liked Aperthorn Junction and of course, Enginewood and Combwich! Managed to get a few things for my 2011 challenge layout as well as another couple of things

Good to see a few RMwebbers (CK, Chris Nevard, Mr Harper, Peter Harvery to name but a few) and other people I know and to have a natter about this and that! I hope the exhibitors have a nice time in the pub this evening !:drinks:

Overall I very nice show!

Simon

If anyone is going to the show tomorrow can you post some pics of Chris Nevard's (I'm not worthy) Coombewich and the Captain's (God bless 'im) Callow lane, as I am on holiday in Welshpool so cannot attend. On the plus side I hope to visit the Welshpool & Llanfair, Llangollen and Talyllyn railways while I'm here.

Hope you all enjoy the show.

Regards, Mark

A good show. Picked up a spray booth for my airbrush.

Didn't think you would venture out that far.

You didn't even mention it to me & you know I don't live very far away.

As it happens, I went to a Lotus meet today................but left the Lotus at home

I'll be going to the show tomorrow though.

With "day 2" pending, before we know it, it will all be over all too soon. Doesn't time fly when we're having fun! Hopefully before the doors open I'll be able to have a look around, there are some wonderful layouts that deserve further inspection. I'm must apologise if anyone saw Combwich with a rather truncated service for about 20 minutes - one of the key point motors suffered failure wihich reduced operation to a rather dull shuting excercise whilst wizard Pete Harvey perfromed some magic under the base board of my 30 year old Combwich. Before the motor died ealier in the day it cause the occasional short. Of course playing trains at home all week never highlights stuff like this :-( Apart from that things worked mostly to satisfaction. Anyway, enough rambling - here's to another great day (with a few hangovers I imagine - on that note, I wonder if any did all 10 handpumps at the Hop Poles? (Last night's jolly).

Superb show - congratulations and thanks to David and the team at Risborough for again booking a very high quality selection of layouts. With such a lineup it's difficult to pick favorites, but Combwich and Engine Wood were for me great examples of the modeller's craft - amazing to think that the basics of Combwich are 30 years old!

Although I'm really a steam fan, I found Portchullin compulsive viewing too - and just a word to say that the operators on Portchullin did appear particularly ready to explain techniques etc to viewers, which was lovely to see.

Having attended a pretty good number of shows last year and so far this, I can certainly say Railex sits head and shoulders above the others, including the 'big boys' such as Ally Pally and Warley.

(Chris - what are you doing up at this hour?!!)

Hi all

Visited Railex yesterday, with the missus. Spent just over 4 hours in the show, before she had, had enough, and it was getting late on in the day.

Congratulations go to the exhibition teem for putting on a really good show again, the standard gets better every year. The four hours was spent nearly entirely looking at layouts, and I hardly looked at a trade stand. Nice to meet a few of you, and I had a good rattle around the 2mm section, and to Mr Tatty (Portchullin).

Even leaving the show had an added bonus, as a bit of a birder, it was nice to see the once endangered red kite flying above the venue, now a familiar sight in that part.

Another excellent show - thanks Guys.

I saw Coomwich and enquired about the new Sentinel loco that Mr. Nevard had to play with. A few minutes later it appeared, and "a very nice man" unexpectedly gave me the controller to play with :) :). Thanks Chris!

Fantastic layouts everwhere - Coomwich, Apethorn Junction, Highbury Colliery, Ashburton, Trerice....ok, well all of them actually.!!

Yesterday was the first time I've made the trip to Railex and I was really impressed by how good it was. Every single layout there was excellent, and the traders were very useful too.

Here are a few photos from the show.

What a feast for the eyes, just need to work out what's what now....

Just a bit far for a day trip though, but will be there next year, the layout and me!

Got back about half an hour ago, and I have to say that it was up to the standard I expected. Given that there were so many good layouts there it's hard to single out any for particular praise, but my personal favourites (of those I hadn't seen before) were Nettlebridge Valley, Portchullin and Combwich. Speaking of the latter, here's a short video of the Model Rail Sentinel at work:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gka3poOZqU8

Chris was generous enough to let me have a go at driving it for the next part of that shunting move, which was very much appreciated!

As far as the show as a whole is concerned, I'm glad I made the decision to come on Sunday this year rather than Saturday - it was noticeably less crowded, which made viewing the layouts a lot easier. The only downside is that most of the bargains seemed to have gone from the second hand shops and box shifters - and I watched one bargain disappear from before my eyes: I'd picked up an item on one stand, made a 99% decision to buy it but then decided to put it down while I had a quick look further down the stand in case there was a similar but better version. But there wasn't, and as I turned back to the original one someone else picked it up and bought it! I suppose that's a lesson for next time, but I still picked up a few things as well as stocking up on various odds and sods from the specialist vendors.

Overall, a very good day and I'll certainly be back next year.

Just got back from an excellent day out which started with a considerably better than passable breakfast at the stadium and went on to be a day at an interesting (and expensive - for the right reasons) show and thanks to Mr Nevard for letting me wreck play with Combwich's fiddle yard for a few hours including devising one or two 'slightly different' train formations. Overall it was a brilliant selection of layouts offering a good mix of 'railway, various' all of which were well done plus, regrettably, an excellent selection of trade attendees (I do hope the club get a percentage from the traders - that would make me feel much betterwink.gif).

Sell out of the show must be Grasstech II on the Green Scenes stand - they had none left on the stand first thing this morning but had 15 back at base and were taking orders for those; if the orders continued through the day at the rate they had started at they won't have those 15 left either. Seems people have been saying to them that they'd seen it recommended by 'someone' on RMWeb' and this was thought to be accounting for the popularity.

Hi

My eldest son and I spent the afternoon and Railex on Saturday, and I would just like to say thank you to the organisers for a great exhibition.

please don't ask me to pick out my favourite layout, because the standard of all the exhibitors was so high.

Looking forward to next year.

Its the delia effect Mike.A recommendation on here goes a long way.I also thought the show was first class both in layouts and trade.Managed to pick all my bits up and have a chat along the way with several well known RMweb contributers. ;) Same again next year please.

TIC (Tongue in cheek)

I wouldn't like to get my hands trapped by the reversing lever on the Sentinel on Combwichtongue.gif

MarkSG's video shows some sharp use of the lever, albeit hidden behind the Engine shed,

Assuming of course it had a lever rather than screw reverse,

although being a Y1, it only had one chain sprocket.........(and as an old boss of mine use to say "what's that got to do with the price of apples?")

I liked the video though....

Now the Nettlebridge Valley Railway - the model, where can I find out any more information, illustrations etc., - Google doesn't bring up that much.

A great day.

I met Jamie B, fellow Cambrian modeller of this parish, for the first time and spent a sizeable chunk of the day with him. The two of us also - inevitably - spent a quite a while on the Dragon Models stand. Between us we bought all his remaining stock of his new Cambrian timber wagon kits and I've challenged Jamie to a race to build the first. Even though all I've done so far is open the packet and extract the contents I must be in the lead as Jamie is still on the M40, on his way home.

Layouts were, as always, first class. The pictures of Nettlebridge Valley that appeared in one of the magazines a while ago did not even begin to do it justice.

My only regret was that Trerice and Wheal Elizabeth weren't together - particularly as being located beside the sheer bulk of the Nettlebridge layout meant Wheal Elizabeth was a bit overwhealmed(!).
