Nelson Jackson
That tender looks amazing, well done! What's the product code for the red lining? I had a look on Fox's website but couldn't find anything.
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted June 29, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 29, 2015 That tender looks amazing, well done! What's the product code for the red lining? I had a look on Fox's website but couldn't find anything. Thanks, the code for the lining is FG1596, it's not in with the railway transfers but 'General Alphabets and Lining'. Boiler bands are FRH4075/6 - LNWR & BR, also does NER & LNER black locos. After a good weekend playing with deseesels on 'Diesels in the Duchy' at Perth it's back to the lining, there's a lot of it! I'm about half way there...

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 1, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 1, 2015 No photos tonight but I am making progress with the lining, the rear and left side of the tender tank are done and lettered, the fun bit next, the left hand tender frame
RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted July 4, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 4, 2015 I'd decided long before starting this loco that I would like sound in it but how could I do that, there's none preserved to record. But on hearing a YouChoos sound for the J15 I thought it would be the closest available - same boiler pressure, same valves and valve gear, similar cylinder size, same chimney, the two locos were after all designed by brothers! the J24 based on the J15. So as it was nearing completion I sent an email to John at YouChoos to see if the J15 could be modified slightly, the Westinghouse pump was removed and NER organ pipe and bell whistles added from recordings of the preserved J72 (organ) and Y7 (bell). Here is the result, the chuff isn't quite in sync with the wheels yet, needs a bit of fine tuning after it's fully run in.
Wizard of the Moor
What speaker have you used, Paul? And where is it located? Sounds very nice to me
micknich2003
Paul, fantastic, when the driver "Whistled for the Board", I thought I was back at Cherry Tree signalbox, and instinctively went fot my lever cloth and ready to pull off. Brilliant. Mick.
Mrkirtley800
Excellent, Paul. When sound is being used at shows, it becomes a bit of a pain, but your model is one I could listen to and enjoy. Derek

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 4, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 4, 2015 Thanks for your replies, the speaker is a YouChoos Sugarcube 9 , the decoder and speaker are in the tender, which needs a bit of something in it to stop it reverberating a bit, it is after all a brass box. mikemeg
Paul, Great job. Looks and sounds the part. I do have query about using DCC sound but perhaps I can PM you with that query. Cheers Mike
RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 6, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 6, 2015 Continued with the lining tonight, the loco is finished!! (I think...) and I've done a bit more to the tender. One little problem is how were the rods painted, were they all red? some early colour photos show just the flutes in red.

RMweb Premium Barry O Posted July 8, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 8, 2015 Paul sugar cubes can fit in between EM frames (and the smallest ones fit into OO frames as well. I fit them under the smokebox (2 off) facing down so the sound "comes from the right vicinity"... Baz

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 11, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 11, 2015 Well that's about it for painting and lining, it needs a bit of weathering, coal, fire irons and glazing to finish. Very happy with how it's turned out and if anyone wants to see it in the flesh I'll have it with me at Goathland next weekend.
