trisonic
This is fast reply because "D'oh" look what happened above. A new for of torture is that the "Add Reply" button disappears when ,my cursor goes over it - which implies that the problem is with RM WEb, I think... Kenton
This type of thing makes no sense to me! It appears random. I can say that the biggest delays for me occur after midnight UK time and last until about 5:00am UK which is counter intuitive.... Could it be first time round your PC is caching much of the information prior to displaying it rather than displaying it as it arrives? Then on the next attempt to load most of the information is already cached? Also doesn't the backup occur at midnight GMT? On the subject of IE9 - I think Microsoft should get on and replace it with IE10 - it is about as reliable as IE6.
RMweb Gold martin_wynne Posted May 31, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 31, 2011 Also doesn't the backup occur at midnight GMT? Jim runs the server backups at midnight EST -- 5am in the UK. The internet is often slow in the early hours because some network links are down for maintenance. regards, Martin.

If you are using the dreaded IE6 or IE7, after clicking the Join Using IE button, scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see that a Join Group button has appeared. Click it. Martin. trisonic
Hi, everyone. The speed issue is LOTS better tonight. Whilst not as perfect as I have seen it things are fairly zipping along (I should keep my mouth shut, just in case). Best, Pete.
robrailltd
Just to let you know when i complained yesterday using IE9 around 10pm the bottom button did not load at all. using now just after 4pm it has worked thank you.
RMweb Premium kevinlms Posted June 2, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2011 Andy - I see you went ahead and sorted the Groups - thank you Jack Hi Andy The Groups are much better now they are sorted alphabetically. Perhaps a minor change? Could the difinitive article 'the' be used consistently? We have examples of "Railways of Scotland" and "The Railways of Cornwall", thus preventing accurate sorting. Best without it? Sorry to be picky, but probably easier to sort out now, rather than later with many more groups. Kevin Martin
Xerces Fobe2
I am now running 2 browsers Firefox and IE9 (32bit) Using IE9 to open RMweb dies work however there are frequent slowdowns many of which ave already been raised. One of the most annoying issues is if you use the Google Toolbar spellchecker when just prior to submitting a posting it works but intermittently when you click stop then you cannot add anymore text for 30secs or so. IMO I am afraid IE9 sucks big time as it is not a stable platform with many issues that need to be resolved. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted June 3, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2011 I had the "type one get one free" post this morning for the first time. I'm not using IE 9 though on this netbook, (Win XP and Chrome). It doesn't happen on my Win 7 PC when I use IE9 (32 or 64bit version.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted June 3, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2011 When IE9 hangs after another injection of my deathless prose into a thread, I simply hit refresh, and generally that wakes the thing from its stupor.

Andy Y
The whole IE issue is baffling me; there seems to be less and less consistency in the problem as time goes on. I'm still waiting to hear back from the App writer but I think the changes at IPB with the launch of 3.2 is distracting everyone.

My expertise on those sort of thing can be summed up in very few words however one thing with IE is that many of the large brand 'puter makers/marketers 'adjust' their version of IE in their own little ways to suit how they want it to perform in their products. That might be an issue here perhaps?

That might be an issue here perhaps? Don't think so SM. My computer came bundled with IE7 and has upgraded to IE8 and, just recently to IE9. I have received no upgrades to speak of from my computer manufacturer and certainly none about web browsers. Incidentally, I have never used IE9 and it is currently showing as 'failed' in my downloads. I use Mozilla both Firefox and Thunderbird. Again, both have recently upgraded themselves and the Firefox window design is now very different and similar in terms of drop down boxes to the latest RMweb. I have had slowing issues and, once or twice the dreaded pink fringed SQL error but it seems to be settling down OK. Of course, nothing near as bad as the complete failures we had early on on the launch of /community/
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted June 3, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3, 2011 Just a thought. Andy mentioned some inconsistency and this reminded me of some of the problems getting games to run on my son's computers. IE9 seems by default to use GPU rather than software rendering. Now I haven't had any IE9 problems and I know my graphics drivers are the latest certified drivers for my graphics card so perhaps this is the cause of some users inconsistency with IE9. ( As I had the double posting on a Chrome / XP netbook and Pete had it with Mac / Safari I don't think that is down to IE9). Tony

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted June 7, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 7, 2011 Andy I was suprised to find that when I went looking for tramway modelling it had dissappeared from the specialist section and was way down the list in groups. I'm concerned that this might mean that anyone new to the forum has no idea this and certain other specialist areas exist. Is it possible to have at least a mention or a link to the group in the special interest section?
