'Non runner but everything there'

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-Dublo-Duchess-of-Atholl-/221302871850?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3386add72a

I presume this loco's very thrifty on coal and water then?  Doesn't seem to have much storage space.  (I wasn't sure whether this model loco had smoke deflectors originally so can't comment)

More a talking point than madness, but I just don't get this.  Honestly described by seller as far as I can see.  2 near identical Triang water towers apart from the fact one is warped and properly described as such but both start at £9.99 Why?

Possibly because the warped one was worked on by Salvador Dali?

Meannwhile, a lopsided smokebox front, and a £250 asking price makes this the "Duchess of Bleurgh"

..and here is a "pack of thingys"...oh...my.... God.

The valve gear looks a bit lopsided too!

As for the "thingys" (we all know what they are!) 99p for 10 seems expensive, since a pack of 50 costs just over £2 on eBay..

Usual disclaimer - just  a satisfied customer!

Perhaps she doesn't work, because she's 3 rail   :jester:  (though repair is quite straightforward)? A reasonable price for a Dublo 'Atholl' (no deflectors is correct - there are examples with, but  they arerare valuable collectables), but the tender is likely to be expensive for a good example. Crank pins falling out is common.

Strangely even the warped ones are collectable! (Not by me I hasten to add - I wouldn't pay £10 for one of these either).

EDIT Neither sold, so it seems others agree!

I had a 3-R Atholl secondhand from a neighbour circa 1955. No smoke deflectors, and yes, a crankpin did fall out! A friend's father sleeved it so it stayed a little longer between such events.

????????????????????????????????????????

I'm not sure what this "ideal" for (apart from the bin), but it looks like the sort of junk you see in 50p bargain bins at swapmeets.

(It appears to be a Tri-ang 'Britannia' tender body on a Jouef underframe).

... But it does have the rare right-facing lion version of the BR emblem!

Are they granite chippings in the tender or scale water softening briquettes?

I assume it's part of a model of British Railways' little known experimental gravel burning loco, an idea mooted by someone who noticed that carbon and silicon are quite close together in the periodic table.  The whole thing was abandoned after several years of effort on the grounds, as stated by engineers involved in the project, of being 'bloody stupid' and 'utterly barking'.

Its a rehash of the days when drivers got paid a bonus for coal saving, so they whitewashed it so preventing it from being pilfered.

God loves a trier.  If you can't sell them singly, do a job lot.......................

Also, if you look at his 2nd pic with all 5 together, you'll see why David Bailey will never be out of work.
