Well if that is indeed the case, its a shame. They have some nice 1:87 scale vehicles on there.

Crome hub caps on a "Royal Mail" van. I don't think so.

Not necc madness just something a bit out of the ordinary.  Mind you, one of our regulars would say 'you are bidding on a hard to find.....'

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-1-4-Gauge-Diesel-Outline-Locomotive-/221305215198?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3386d198de

Ugly as sin but looks reasonably well finished. Depending on how well the mechanics have been done, 800 quid for a working(?) 7.25" loco isn't bad at all.

They're still trying to sell that!

I think it might be another one. Those things are being churned out by the containerload in 3rd-World sweatshops. Harleys, trucks and muscle-cars in a similar "naive" style are also common subjects.

Strewth.....

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=171134982083

I know this has been covered many times before but I can't believe the prices FGW stuff is fetching. I could retire early if I sold all mine at these prices!

But never forget that price might be dictated by what two people are prepared to pay, once one of them has paid it the next person along might not be prepared to pay as much and the price reached by the two highest bidders might well be a lot lower - you always need at two buyers with very deep pockets to achieve the highest prices.

OK, a sightly different one here. No problem with the product or the starting price, but why can't sellers understand that using your listing to whinge about how awful your 'customers  are is an incredibly offputting way of selling your stuff.

It's a modern day version of the minority of shops in the old days that featured some miserable old git who viewed any customer as a timewaster and/or thief and peppered the stock with notices like 'don't touch' (and yes, I remember back in the 80s as a teenager those shopkeepers that automatically assumed I was a lout because I was under 40, interested in diesels, and unable at that age to whittle my own rolling stock out of balsa wood.....)

I know that there are difficult buyers out there in both cyberspace and the real world but I can honestly say if you are open and polite then the experience is overwhelmingly a positive one.

PS I am now over 40 and still having trouble whittling my rolling stock out of balsa wood

if I feel a description is not necessary then I will just leave it to the title.

which is:

Hornby 00 GAUGE COLLECTION MASSIVE HUGE OF SPARES AND REPAIRS AS SHOWN

Glad that's clear then.

I see that the price has now dropped...

Slashed from £28,500.00 ...

to....

....wait for it...

Only £2850.00 - and still with free postage :jester:

Well, it was subsequently dropped to £285, and I see it's now 'only' £245...

...still too much?

The percentage of 'non Hornby' seems quite high. Obviously the seller, doesn't have a rubbish bin.

Someone is desperate enough to make a bid though, perhaps they have 3 sets of Tri-ang wheels that are looking for a suitable home?

I walked past one of these in Rails at £6 because I thought it was too expensive, but bloody hellfire;

Mike.

A bit steep indeed!  Even our friend "Gostude" is undercutting him by half!

Agree, that is often what you see. In this instance however there were 10 bidders and 17 bids! It could have been down to two bidders fighting it out at the bitter end though.

"loco only, driving wheels and pony truck.no bogies ,cylinders or motion. some very minor body damage. for spares or restoration . good condition."

So how does a model get into this (good?) condition?

One for Woodmores of this parish I think!

Would you buy a model on the basis of only a line illustration, with no photos at all? Does the model even exist? Are bidders being taken for a ride?

Strange, "I AM LOOKING FOR ABOUT £325 ON A BUY IT NOW" but no BIN button. Unfortunately, my eyes rebel against a block of text like that. :-/

Mind you 100% positive feedback on a couple of thousand sales.

Would I buy anything from anyone who referred to the locomotive having a chinmey?  Honestly, it's be like dealing with Mary Poppins-era Dick Van Dyke.

(Shuffles off muttering "chin-chinmery, chin-chinmery, chin-chin-cheroo".  Me old china).
