EBay madness

Why pick on that poor little loco, your second line applies to the majority of his stock!

Mike.

This one for instance. I know Dinky Toys fetch silly prices, but.......  (Not rare AFAIK -  I had one many years ago)

(Ithought VN MIB was supposed to mean 'very near mint in box' -  perhaps I'm wrong, because this certainly isn't.

Thats not even near mint condition, the correct description should be 'chipped', worth about 10% at most of one in mint condition.

I've never seen one in that colour before, if genuine it is extreamly rare and the asking price reflects that. Mind you I would not buy it unless I could examine it thoroughly first.

This is a rare colour (unlike the Landy, which normally came in green or orange), but whether it's 'worth' this mind-boggling amount I wouldn't like to say. Certainly not to me, but some Dinkie's fetch thousands. :O

If anyone wants a Land Rover, there's one here. No box, but it does have the trailer (and better condition).

And talking of the trailers, I wonder how this can be described as 'clean and tidy" and "original", when the towbar is bent. Being mazak, it is highly unlikely to straighten without fracture. Especially since £19.99 is being asked for it!

Strangely Meccano modelled the Land Rover at 38:1 (or so they claimed), so it's no use to anyone as a trackside accessory.

That comes with a slight odour to it I reckon.  I don't know how descriptions work in the model railway world but the box/packing sure as heck isn't 'mint' as damage is visible so at best it's 'near mint' in my view and in the sort of grading I'm used to.

But then we come to an interesting conundrum - that loco, albeit packed under shrinkwrap, looks to me to be gloss whereas according to Pat Hammond's excellent publication the Beatties limited Edition locos were matt.  And where's the box lid - I can't remember ever seeing locos in boxes in Beatties without lids although admittedly it's c.40 years since either version (matt or gloss) of that loco were on sale.  I do wonder if somewhere along the line something 'clever' has gone on - so caveat emptor in my view, especiaily at that sort of ludicrous price (which puts even a lot of vintage highly collectable Marklin stuff in the shade).

Maybe the MIB one was just out of shot to the left?

Dinky Toys aren't my area of expertise, but Britains and other toy figures are , and his prices for those are about 4 times as much as you might expect to find similar but good condition items for.  The mind boggles that he ever manages to sell anything!
