RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted January 4, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 4, 2018 (edited) There have been examples in the past of a particular sales model when common items were placed on e-bay at really inflated prices. Apparently the vendor did not have any actual stock but if any one was gullible enough to buy at their silly price they simply went out and bought one at normal price to sell on. Usually arriving in an Amazon box. Edited January 4, 2018 by adb968008

Il Grifone
Now, let me see! If I rip a page out of an old Meccano Magazine and shove it on eBay for a couple of quid, some sucker will buy it for the price of the whole magazine! Aren't I clever? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/m11b-ephemera-1950s-picture-mr-parks-peacehaven-meccano-model-bus/263415687661?hash=item3d54cc69ed:g:tbwAAOSw44BYN-JO or maybe not! EDIT. Il Grifone
Anyone for a reproduction dinky tr2 to go with your O gauge trains?? https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/DeAgostini-Dinky-Toys-No-111-Triumph-TR2-Sports-Car-Superb-Mint-/142640266984?nav=SEARCH Or £2.99 from your local Tesco ( other supermarkets are available) https://www.deagostini.com/uk/collections/dinky-toys-collection/ You could probably get the real thing for than sort of money. Maybe without a box (who cares apart from a collector who wouldn't want this anyway) and a bit used* but it would be the genuine article. (There are several on eBay.) * A few chips in the paintwork - a tatty one for restoration would be around £5-10. To be pedantic, the Dinky Model is 17/64" to the foot according to Meccano Ltd. (or 1:45 approximately). Now this is 0 scale in DeAgostini land, but I leave it you to decide if this close enough to 7mm. (To partner Hornby trains, I would say that it is more than near enough....) RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted January 6, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 6, 2018 Madness or oddness more like! This stuff has served me well over the years. it was recommended to me by the shipwrights at my local marina some years ago but not at this price! Just check out all their other stuff at the bottom of their page. All their Wudcare products are at ludicrous prices. Could it be the 'not in stock' thing? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WUDCARE-5-MINUTE-SUPER-FAST-PVA-WATERPROOF-WOODWORKING-ADHESIVE/182993193505?hash=item2a9b3e8a21:m:mYR4SkyenpCxFzKP9oPhYag @ £200 ln earlier style bottles. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wudcare-Five-Minute-Super-Fast-PVA-Woodworking-Adhesive-Wood-Glue-500ml/351985220190?epid=571401758&hash=item51f3f43a5e:g:UBEAAOSwx6pYp-om I bought the same stuff yesterday at the chandlery for £6.35! thaddeus
Anyone else seen this nonsense - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132372067143 Highlights: "Chassis has been shortened (cut back) at both ends by a previous owner" and "without any other fault that I can see" - well, I can see that the mid section is completely rotten from all the cracking and if the ends were "cut back" before they fell off by themselves I would be very surprised £30 for a 2nd hand motor and some screws? no

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted January 6, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 6, 2018 Chassis has been shortened (cut back) at both ends by a previous owner. Otherwise item is in very good condition with smooth running motor and without any other fault that I can see. Originally part of BR green loco no. D5512 cat no. R2420 produced in 2005. If it's been cut back "by a previous owner", how does he know which loco it came from? Mike.

Il Grifone
This "seller" is trying to give the infamous Gostude a run for his money. His prices are a total joke on everything , let alone this junk. Looks like yet another 'take it and to bits and sell as spares merchant'. Most of the higher price obtained (maybe) is lost in the trouble advertising and packing/posting all the parts IMHO.

The shipping shows (for me at least) as being sent by the Global Shipping program and as far as I'm aware the seller can't discern/restrict bidding on that item if they've selected Global Shipping as an option, they simply have to ship it to the local Pitney Bowes/Global Shipping location in the UK. FWIW - I've personally had successful results receiving items via Global shipping, often at similar shipping costs to stuff sent directly by the seller or from stores such as Hattons or Rails... My only personal issue with the Global program is the last item I won/got appeared to tour half the east coast of the US before finally arriving - certainly not the sellers fault Edited January 8, 2018 by Ian Abel
