edcayton
I've been thinking about this for a while and a comment in the thread on exhibitions prompted this post. My major areas are cars/classic cars/specifically MG's, motorcaravanning/VW campers/specifically T4 and T5 campers. I also buy the odd guitar mag to drool over something nice on the cover, and canal/narrowboat mags to keep a dream alive. This can be a serious expense, and takes a lot of space because I don't throw stuff away. I tend to put the latest purchase in the bog and try not to buy another until that is done with. Thoughts? RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted August 24, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24, 2012 Playb...... Seriously, Tech mags, photography, travel but all on an irregular basis as I just get them when there is something that interests me
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted August 24, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24, 2012 Photography (cough), computing, and Viz (really a comic I guess) occasionally - they're the ones I'm admitting to anyway.
Baby Deltic
Viz. I occasionally buy electronics mags such as Everyday Electronics.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 24, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 24, 2012 'Classic van and pick up' because I have a classic van. Also 'Practical classics' partly for the same reason but also their 'memory lane' article often contains street scene pics from the 50's through to the 90's which can be useful from a model railway point of view. edcayton
A friend often passes the former to me (Iused to have a Minor van, and a VW type2 "bay"), and I often buy PC and find it a good read. Did you get the bookazine they did last year with lots of Memory Lane photo's? Ed

'CHARD
Viz and Private Eye occasionally, depending on present company and journey characteristics! Kerrang! a fair amount for the new release and gig listings, but counterbalanced with rage and mockery of the idiot mascara-clad emo lad bands posing and trying to look hard and cool. Oh yeah - edit - forgot the occasional purchase of your more niche music mags when there's some specific issue of punk rock interest. Vive le Rock is also an essential http://www.vivelerock.net/ - and this current issue's focused on UK '82 Punk, a particular specialist subject of mine... Rugd1022
Classic & Sportscar most months, Classic Cars, Practical Classics and Classic Car Weekly (paper) occasionally, usually when I get 'the twitch' about wanting another car. Reality usually sets in very quickly though and it's back to the railway stuff until the urge to purchase a Rover P5B Coupe rears it's naughty head. Also buy Miniworld or Mini Magazine once in a while if there's a feature on 60s Minis in them, plus the odd music mag such as Mojo. Used to spend a fortune on guitar mags some years ago too, in the vain hope that someone would do a feature on Vox guitars (another fetish which won't let go). There are drawer fulls of various hobby related mags in our mess room at work which get picked up occasionally... Classic Commercial, various photography stuff and the odd non classic motor titles. We definitely have at least three bus enthusiasts at the depot if the amount of magazines dedicated to them is anything to go by. I had a very nice surprise last Christmas when a mate cleared out his Modern Railways Pictorials and left them on top of my locker!

pointstaken
Model Engineer, science and world news magazines. These are all passed on to various recipients, thus keeping non-railway magazines and SWMBO moans to a minimum. Dennis

RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted August 25, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 25, 2012 "Buses" (every issue since December 1969 purchased, those since January 2000 still kept) is the only general-issue magazine I currently have without fail; it has been on subscription for the past 40 years. "Buses Extra" for the first couple of years of its publication but the interest in and need to purchase two quite similar magazines soon waned. When we first came to Australia I started taking "Rail News Victoria", "Railway Digest" and "Motive Power" every issue to learn and understand more of the operations here since they also included some tram material (RNV also despite its title includes bus, ferry and aviation news!) but quickly found them to be a little less than stimulating reading and in the case of RNV a little over the top in terms of the proprietor's charismatic style and content. I have kept those I bought but seldom buy any Australian magazine these days. Single copies of the various modelling magazines sometimes fined their way home based upon some specific content I wish to read and retain but perhaps surprisingly I do not, and never have, taken any modelling publication on a regular basis. chrisf
Practical Photography, Photography Monthly and fRoots. The first two are self-explanatory. The third covers that nebulous type of music known as Roots which embraces folk, world music and the like. Chris
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted August 25, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 25, 2012 We have Motor Sport on subscription, Le Mans magazine ditto, which I think is about 8 times a year. I will occasionally buy Chasseur d'Images (Picture Hunter) as it has very good early reviews of new camera kit.
