Hi Mick,

I can only agree mate. I have two dogs and always get on quite well with other peoples but for some inexplicable reason this one a Border Collie type, unusual in itself, took a total dislike to my presence which resulted in seven stitches and blood pressure through the roof 210/55! The doctor advised I reported the incident adding 'what if it had been a child' so we'll let the authorities take their course of action, I'll survive.

Hi Mike

I hope your hand heals up soon. As a professional dog walker I am always saddened to hear of dogs attacking people or other dogs.

Border Collies can be very protective of their flock (or owner) and will see other dogs and their owners as a threat. This is very important trait for a working Collie. People having them as pets need to teach them from puppyhood that other dogs are part of the flock/pack and are not a threat but need looking after. If they are not socialised as puppies their natural insticts take over.

Hi Clive,

It was my left leg mate, don't want this "tail" tale going out of control do we? Left leg, soft tissue at the back, 2 inch gash, muscle hanging out etc, 7 stitches, mentally and physically scarred for life, oh I'm going for a lye down!.....................That is before I head to Swadlincote to attend to Andy and his perverse tattoo idea!

No No No I really DO feel for you mate, :O  well just a little bite :nono: WHOOPS bit anyway, :stinker: hahahaha. How did it happen? please relay the tale,

Your'e bringing it all back, my poor state of mind is in turmoil - have I laid it on enough yet....

Anyway for anyone interested I was simply delivering some ply bed slats to a 'customer' who had a dog in the front garden, it jumped up at the gate as most dogs do and I patted it on the head as I always do, I opened the gate and went in, the dog snapped at my right leg catching the skin a little but ended up tugging at my trousers (thankfully no kilt on eh!) I shouted at it and it ran off, I turned to shut the very awkward gate catch and the dog came around from the back of me in a pincer move and sunk its teeth into my left calf, I shouted some obscenity and retreated leaving the ply behind.

I thought nothing of it and went to see another customer when I noticed the feeling of blood running down so thought a visit to the walk-in was in order. After 20 mins I was called in and saw the 'mess' for the first time, a two inch gash and bits of muscle protruding. The nurse said it was beyond their remit and I was sent to A&E walk-in at hospital, after being the talk of the department and shoved from pillar to post I eventually received 7 stitches, should have been double but the risk of infection due to a bite is high. Now on antibiotics and blood pressure through the roof. Incident reported to police as advised. If you want a picture I'll PM it as its a bit gory mate, I went to see a doctor customer today who was blasé at the tale then when I showed him the injury he was shocked adding 'you did inform the police, it could have been a child' exactly what the hospital advised. Hope you have had your tea mate.

CRIKEY MATE, That sounds a lot worse than I though, at first I thought you were joking but you did the right thing reporting it.

Hi Mike

Good thing you reported it to the police. Since the changes last year to the Dangerous Dogs Act, if a dog attacks someone on your property you have broken the law. This is to protect postal workers and other delivery people from being bitten performing their ordinary work. The only exceptions are if the person is a trespasser or a burglar and the dog is inside your building.

Ex nurse’s hat on now. If your wound starts to feel warm, continues to swell, oozes anything, smells and continues to be painful, especially throbbing back to your doctors or A&E. These are signs it may be infected. Are you going back to A&E to have your dressing renewed or to your GP practice nurse? If not did the A&E give you replacement dressings? If they did it might be worth booking an appointment with your GP’s practice nurse and tell her you need some help with the dressing so that a pair of professional eyes can check the wound.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the concern, truly appreciated.

Jason: Surprisingly I did get paid but I was not there so it looks like the police had not visited at that point. I was tempted to bash it over the head but I thought it would probably win!

Clive: I was back to the doc's on Thursday for a check, wound okay but still high blood pressure. I'm back to the hospital today and again to the doc's on Monday but they are concerned over the high blood pressure 210/55 on the day and still 165/?? yesterday.

Small photo of the stitched up wound below which is far more tolerable than the original gash view! If you don't want to look scroll past quickly!!!!!

That's awful mate, but more worrying is your Blood pressure, are you sure its not caused by to much money left in your wallet after Stafford? :nono:  :nono:  :nono:  :nono:  hahhah

All the best mate, and have a good rest, and as Clive said, keep getting it checked.

Photo deleted, I'm no good doing gory :nono:

The other thing apart from the discomfort is the inconvenience and cost of having to mess around with doctors and hospitals taking up your own time through no fault of your own :stinker:

Couldn't agree more mate, spent 90 mins plus travelling to hospital this morning for a 5 min check and then had an arguement about if or not the nurse was taking my blood pressure, well she eventually did and it was 175, not surprised as I was pi**ed off, all that modelling time going to waste!

Mike,

Very sorry I've missed all the drama - laid low with a nasty bug, and away all day tomorrow so I'll look in on Monday to catch up! Hope that your blood pressure comes back in to line - had you checked it before the event as it is known as the silent killer? My own BP problems were discovered when my GP insisted on an MOT when I reached sixty otherwise I would not have known - been on pills ever since!

Please take care,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Evening Mike.

Just popped in to wish you well after Jason told me about your recent canine run-in. I won't repeat the conversation that Jason and I had regarding what we'd have likely done!

Great batch of photos today. I just love the S&C and it keeps me inspired for the Fell to come.

Best wishes.

Jeff
