Hi all,

Can any experts identify the vans on the right-hand road in photo JVol5067 (post 578)?

Many thanks,

Bill

Not sure about the one nearest the camera with the pronounced ducket, but the other two look like a Gresley 4-wheel brake (didn't Finelines do one?) and an ex-LMS 50' brake.

Another mixed bag this afternoon, just to show that Dad photographed anything which had wheels and ran on rails - I was riding on the children's railway at the time.

The Volks of course still exists unlike most of the 'London Extension'.

I juts love that shot of the C2X and Fairburn on BN Shed and weren't the 2BILS 'handsome' compared to some of today's plastic carts.

This evening having finished Volume 5 we go back to volume 1.  When I started the thread I had expected just a few views so at first didn't upload all the suitable images.  So I have gone back through the scans and chosen the rest, including some which have been seen in other threads some time ago, but not yet in this thread (as far as I can remember).

This evening we are visiting a number of locations at various dates.

I reckon the Flying Pig's number plate has been 'doctored'. It looks like the number has had an M welded on (left side)! Or it has been mended?

P

I think the M has been added as before the ex LMS engines had their number prefixed with either 4 or 5 the letter M was used, just as some of the other photos have an E in front of the LNER number before their prefix became 6.

Given the main industry at Melton Mowbray, I do wonder what those horseboxes were doing there..

There are a lot of hunts in the area as well as Point to Point racing.

The added M to the LMS number would not fit on the existing smokebox number plate, so was often left off the front; in which case only the cabside got the M, sometimes above the number if it would fit, otherwise below. Sometimes a sheet steel extension piece to mount the M was added to the front number plate, secured by the right hand (looking forward) number plate mounting bolt. The effect was to make the number plate off centre, as with M3003 above.

This evening we visit Rugby again as well as the ECML and Nottinghamshire.  Again some of the images have been seen in other threads.

Like the two PO wagons following the "Pig" in 1050.

An originally large letter CWS wagon repainted to just a panel with the name on and the other wagon now obviously in public ownership with a "P" series number.
