RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted March 11, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2022 A pretty impressive station for such a small place. Good that it has found a new use. I have not used Barter Books but have heard of them. And that last view. How does one model anything like that? Jonathan
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 11, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11, 2022 Good evening, David. That’s a superb selection of photo’s of Alnwick and Edlingham from the 80’s and 90’s. As already stated, Alnwick station was just so large and very impressive in stone for such a small place, and in C18128, at Edlingham, on the former Alnwick to Coldstream line, on the 31st October, 1992, you have captured a delightful view of the castle in front of the viaduct. Such an atmospheric shot, with such a colourful background. How lovely it will have been to have had a little steam engine puffing it’s one coach train along the line in the midst of all that beautiful scenery. With warmest regards, Rob. 1

As far as I know the towards the end of pasenger services between Alnwick and Cornhill in September 1930 the usual train was a D17 with two coaches. It would indeed have been lovely to see. lmsforever
Dave thank you for the Alnwick and related photos it is my favorite part of the UK always enjoyed my holidays in the Northumberland country. It always surprised me just how much railway remains were to be found when driving around the county. Alnwick station recreated as Barter Books was an important visit and you could imagine a train arriving as you sat in a quiet corner reading.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 12, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2022 Good evening, David. What a superb set of photo’s of Cambridge from 1947 to 1949. In JVol7375, with a class B1, E1094, on an up passenger train from Cambridge to London, in 1948, you can see that the first carriages are non gangwayed. However, at least the first carriage, being a Gresley CL has toilets for both classes of passengers. It’s also interesting to see the first kind of electric lighting fitted on the locomotive. Is it the rear of a "Limit of Shunt" marker, although not quite in the same place as the one shown on your diagram, in the six foot between the Up and Down mains? There weren't any disc signals in Cambridge station area (until later), the shunt aspects were miniature semaphores. 1 1 1

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 13, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2022 Good evening, David. What a fascinating set of photo’s of Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale, from April, 1975. In J4233, at Ironbridge, Blists Hill, looking down the inclined plane you can see just how steeply inclined it was. The Newcastle to Carlisle line photo’s are as interesting as ever, and in C20562, at Bardon Mill, on the 7th October, 1995, that’s a delightful portrait of your parents, and as already mentioned they have both contributed to this thread with their photo’s. I hope you’ll continue to post more of their railway photo’s. With warmest regards, Rob.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 14, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2022 Good evening, David. The latest selection of photo’s of Newcastle are full of interest, and the last one particularly so. It shows a Plasser track machine, on the 11th June, 1991. I see at the end nearest to the camera it reads ‘GP TRAMM’. Also tobe seen in that photo’ is the base of what looks like a former water tank. It would make a delightful model. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 15, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 15, 2022 Good evening, David. That’s an excellent set of photo’s of the ECML, in Northumberland from Damdykes level crossing, going by the northern edge of Cramlington and then finally arriving at Clifton level crossing. In the last photo’ of Waterman Railways, 47705, on an up charter train on the 10th April, 1996, the 47 is giving out a good flurry of exhaust as it powers past hauling that train. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted March 17, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 17, 2022 Good evening, David. That’s a delightful selection of photo’s of Wooden Gates crossing just south of Alnmouth on the ECML in Northumberland. In J11656, with a 37 and a 47, on a down light engine movement, with a class 43 on an up express train, going away, in October, 1990, your Dad has caught two completely different types of trains. Just a shame we will never find out the identities of the 37 and 47. With warmest regards, Rob.
