Decided to while away some time running in my Prairies. Found some old Hornby set track to put an oval on the dining table and dug out a Lima controller. Found a few points....A bit more track...

Funny how things develop. Just spent the last two hours playing trains....

Great fun. Blowing a gale outside, belting down with rain but all is good indoors.

I've got a train set to play with....

Well, I have thoroughly enjoyed my play time this afternoon. Amazing how relaxing all this is and how quickly time just disappeared.

These Prairies really are lovely engines, both to look at and play with. Definitely my favourite GWR engine.

A couple more photos of my playtime.

4585 arrives with the branch passenger whilst 4561 pauses in mid shunt. I could get used to this.....

Happy Fathers Day from No1 son.

This is a really exceptional model. The level of detail is quite stunning. As you can tell I am impressed.

I was quite suprised to see Mansell wheels fitted. Was this the norm on GWR horse boxes?

Well, a month has gone by and still no modelling to speak of. A change in shift pattern now means that the five on four off has gone, to be replaced with Mon-Fri 8-4 though week ends are sometimes worked as well. Mmmm. This is taking some getting used to after nearly 20yrs of various shift patterns.

Prompted by Coachman on his Ellesmere thread, I decided to run in a couple of locos and this saw a return to the dining table this morning.

Where does the time go ??!!!

A bit of running, a bit of shunting, getting various stock out of boxes........great fun and a very relaxing couple of hours flew by. No 1 daughter insisted on various locos being tried. A particular favourite was the Hornby M7.

Great fun.

Well a pleasant afternoon, I would say. Whilst not strictly modelling it has been a lot of fun and in some ways very enlightening.

The new 700 class is an absolute delight. Lovely model and very sweet running straight from the box. There are shortfalls sure, but this is, already, one of my favourites.

The M7 and T9 are also lovely models. Look great and run superbly.

The Beattie Well tank is one of the first batch but has not seen much use. It looks great and runs well( no pun intended) but there is something about the way it sits on the track, a bit crooked?

Anyway, a fab way to spend an afternoon.

The DTTF is here to stay.

No idea how this has happened but I managed to do a spot of modelling this evening. I was able to knock up the platform for Bamfylde out of some Ratio leftovers and plasticard.

Tried out the buildings for size while I was at it and all appears good. I am happy with the result, subject to some tweaking taking place.

I do like the Blue Anchor waiting room but will need to add a chimney or two along with a few other details. Only arrived last week but it was worth the wait. Looks nice with the signal box.

With regard to buildings such as Station Masters houses etc, can any one assist with the colours for the woodwork.

Would they have been as for the station buildings, signal boxes etc?

Totally diverted from all things British, let alone Western. Over in the Czech Republic. Spending some time with my lad exploring some truly wonderful back waters of the Czech Railway system.

Travelled to Obratan today. Junction with the local narrow gauge JHMD. No narrow gauge in attendance but found our friend from yesterday. A couple of shots of 810 194 at Obratan.

No railway travel planned for today. I have to say I am very taken with Czech Railways. Sure, there are some changes afoot with new lines being built and some modernisation being carried out at existing stations but it remains a peoples railway. The local lines are well patronised, and trains run on time. The rail cars i have photographed are ideal for purpose and are great fun. They are cheap to run and use. Both trips have cost me less than a pound for me and my son. We have a few more trips planned for next week with maybe a run to Prague.

I will keep you posted.
