Gresley teak after nationalization.
Railfreight1998 replied to Blackthorn's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Apologies if it doesn't completely answer the OP, but this photo appears to show a BG in very dirty teak (or is it plain brown?) in 1968. https://railphotoprints.uk/p968868046/h28d59426 -

Class 68 Photos and videos
Railfreight1998 replied to GWRPhil's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Poor light doesn't help phone camera quality, but 68006 on its first working wearing the new livery was definitely worth recording. 68006 'Pride of the North' on the Grangemouth-Craiginches intermodal passing Carmont's distant signal. 12/11/21- 651 replies

Using Setrack on a serious layout
Railfreight1998 replied to Trainnoob's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
No? Anything with modern (ie not pizza cutter) flanges runs fine on it. If it helps, the card is very thin - about 0.8mm. -
Using Setrack on a serious layout
Railfreight1998 replied to Trainnoob's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
I wouldn't say it looks brilliant but respacing the sleepers is a pretty quick way to improve the appearance, though not limited to just setrack. It gets rid of the strange sleeper section at the ends of each panel too. Or you could go the lazy way and use it to model an inlaid section, which also hides the overscale rail. -
Best Caledonian sleeper route?
Railfreight1998 replied to Trainnoob's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
All 3 of the highland routes are pretty scenic, but if it's the scenery you're really interested in, a daytime service is probably a better bet, especially in winter. Even in summer, you aren't going to get any daylight before Edinburgh on the down service. -
James Makin's Workbench - 1990s dirty diesels & grotty wagons
Railfreight1998 replied to James Makin's topic in Layout topics
Not sure if you've seen this James, but there's some great footage of Didcot for the first 10 minutes or so of this video. -
A new chassis and a repaint. The chassis is available from parkside, but then you may as well build the whole kit from scratch.

Next batch of Class 70's
Railfreight1998 replied to k-59's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Looks like it gained it sometime in August, I'm guessing in Barassie yard. Here it is passing Aquairie heading for Waterloo quay from Grangemouth. 30/8/21 -
RHTT 2021 Season
Railfreight1998 replied to beast66606's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Again not an rhtt set, but some of the route learners from Inverness to Montrose and back. Wonder if this might mean an FEA set this year rather than the usual mpv. 67016 on the southbound leg passing Feathers, Stonehaven. 3/8/21 The same loco heading north from Mossend for another set of training runs a few days later. 16/8/21 Grey/silver 67012 is doing the this weeks learners. -
Apparently the internal dividers are removable as well to allow them to carry slab.

ScotRail to cut services
Railfreight1998 replied to lmsforever's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
It isn't normal practice. I believe the 73s were suffering more (!) reliability issues so some were doubled up and others paired with 66s. Single 73s are being used again on some portions ie from Aberdeen (though staffing issues has been cancelling it recently). -
The class 59s
Railfreight1998 replied to Steadfast's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
The zig zag was for their new build locos, and the straight band for inherited types. The straight gold does look better on the 'square' design though. -
Going back to the cables, to be fair to Heljan, the cables in this image do look pretty 2D. http://www.hondawanderer.com/86254_Gissing_1988.htm

Modern Grain Wagons
Railfreight1998 replied to HighPeak45's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Unless you're willing to kitbash the grainflow/distillers polybulks, the Bachmann polybulks are about your only option, though they were only trialled on grain a handful of times. The CEAs could be an option with some modellers licence, as they were tried on just about any traffic, including seaweed. -
The trouble with more modern track machines is that there are so many types and variations that it's hard to make it viable to tool just one. A good starting point might be the MFS-D and MFS-SB wagons that can often be seen without the associated ballast cleaning plant, and can be seen with almost any operators locos.

Lowmac carrying a container in 1968
Railfreight1998 replied to Rail-Online's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Wonder how many models have been made of them? I made a (fairly rough) version of one a while back, though it's still not entirely finished. -
Mark 5, By Accurascale

Remember the CS Mk5s are a bit shorter than the TPE coaches though
