  2. Very nice, but oh those couplings! (I realise they're a means to an end). Mike.
  3. Not a particularly good photo, and you'll have to take my word for it, but this is 1721 on 1F50, Doncaster - Edinburgh Merrymaker, 15.2.73. I remember quite a few 1FXX trains from my days at Doncaster in the early 70's, I shall have to dig my spotting books out to get to the bottom of this. Mike.
  4. At least one of you got dressed in the dark! Mike.
  5. My thoughts too. Pretty sure it didn't originate E/NE region, so maybe a Manchester/Liverpool - Weymouth or similar?
  6. Re the carflats. I believe F was the headcode for a special working at this time, I think wholly within the ER. Others may confirm or deny. Mike.
  7. How many monks are doing the hand illuminating these days? Mike.
  8. Something happens with people on deaths doorstep to make them hang on. In a similar scenario from a few years back, my father in law, who had throat cancer and had been taken off treatment earlier on in the week as he wasn't expected to see the night out, lasted until the saturday afternoon, when my brother in law, who had a very high powered job in an American company and couldn't get there immediately, finally arrived from Boston USA via Japan, A strange thing the human body. Mike.
  9. If manufacturers turned out wagons to the same standards of finesse as their loco's and coaches, then quite a few aftermarket improvement kit manufacturers would be out of a job. It seems to me that the market is just about floating in the right waters, something for everyone, but as always with railway modellers, not everyone is happy. Mike.
  10. The first line gives hope to a build article appearing hereabouts Arthur? Mike.
  11. If you think coaches are bad, try doing departmental wagons! Put each individual number on, then thoroughly dry with one of these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-X-Disposable-Make-Up-Eye-Shadow-Sponge-Lip-Brush-Applicator-Makeup-Tool-HOT-/322539991339?hash=item4b18e1b12b:g:YecAAOSwxvpXOdec If you do them one at a time with the minimum amount of water, then settle them down with Microset, it's not too arduous. Mike.
  12. Personally, I would have thought the touch screen jobbies are more distracting than a mobile phone, yet you get a fine and points for using one of those. Who type approved a virtual television set in front of the driver, I thought they were illegal? Mike.
  13. Sounds like the original concept is an accident going somewhere to happen, so replacement might be a good idea? If you've got a steady hand, Alclad chrome paint. If you've got good eyesight and a steady hand, cut kitchen foil into strips and stick on with varnish. Mike.
  14. Spanish "wood" isn't much cop however it's stacked, ply and timber seem to be some close b@stard relative of balsa, warps like billyho, and is only suitable for making Robin Hoods bow. Plywood, (madera contrachapada), bends before your very eyes, to see it in a twisted stack in the bricolage is a sight to behold. Timber lengths have to be unscrewed out of the rack, I needed some 9mm x 9mm last week and left without buying any such was it's warp factor. Aluminium would seem to be the way to go, but I'm not at all confident of it's dimensional stability as a baseboard in these climaes. Tim Horn will be getting my contract. Mike.
  15. Hope DoMH didn't build the zimmer frame, you'll not make it past the matrons office. Mike.
  16. I reckon a message to Justin might produce a result? Mike.
  17. Firstly, excuse me for advising you to do something I couldn't, but, as it's a cameo locomotive, couldn't you gimp an image to get the basic dimensions, then do as Adam has done with his lowmac, and cut the body and frames from brass/plastic sheet? Tucked away at the back of the layout it wouldn't need to be super detailed, and any cock ups, errors can be hidden in the shed or on the side facing away. Mike.
