  1. That sir is not a sows ear, the original MTK may have been, but this build shows how much progress Alistair was making upgrading the range. His untimely death robbed all "modern image" modellers af what would have been an excellent range of rolling stock, some of his unfinished business was mouth watering. Mike.
  2. I couldn't possibly comment. Mike.
  3. Likewise your EHIC card, and no doubt many other applications. Chancers abound. Mike.
  4. Of such is the legal profession constructed. Mike.
  5. As cr@p as the free mag might be, and it may be impinging on other magazine sales, at least it gets 100 people through the door to pick it up, so it may have some merit? Mike.
  6. I'd also read the "973 different ways to solder" threads scattered hereabouts. Mike.
  7. Agree about the fine point part, I've got about half a dozen different profiles on my RSU rods. I couldn't get on with the solder cream, either overambitious emission or, as you say, goes off in the syringe, so I tin all parts first then zap them, I find it works far better for me. Mike. Edited to replace heejackerlation with emission.
  8. Headcode confirmation here; http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/43551-north-eastern-region-headcodes-1960s-to-1976/ Mike.

  10. Very nice, but oh those couplings! (I realise they're a means to an end). Mike.
  11. Not a particularly good photo, and you'll have to take my word for it, but this is 1721 on 1F50, Doncaster - Edinburgh Merrymaker, 15.2.73. I remember quite a few 1FXX trains from my days at Doncaster in the early 70's, I shall have to dig my spotting books out to get to the bottom of this. Mike.
  12. At least one of you got dressed in the dark! Mike.
  13. My thoughts too. Pretty sure it didn't originate E/NE region, so maybe a Manchester/Liverpool - Weymouth or similar?
  14. Re the carflats. I believe F was the headcode for a special working at this time, I think wholly within the ER. Others may confirm or deny. Mike.
  15. How many monks are doing the hand illuminating these days? Mike.
  16. Something happens with people on deaths doorstep to make them hang on. In a similar scenario from a few years back, my father in law, who had throat cancer and had been taken off treatment earlier on in the week as he wasn't expected to see the night out, lasted until the saturday afternoon, when my brother in law, who had a very high powered job in an American company and couldn't get there immediately, finally arrived from Boston USA via Japan, A strange thing the human body. Mike.
  17. If manufacturers turned out wagons to the same standards of finesse as their loco's and coaches, then quite a few aftermarket improvement kit manufacturers would be out of a job. It seems to me that the market is just about floating in the right waters, something for everyone, but as always with railway modellers, not everyone is happy. Mike.
