  1. Now, cat soldering, there's a future olympic sport if ever I heard one! Mike.
  2. It could be a planned/arranged double heading as the Brush 2 has the correct, (I assume), headcode, if it was a rescue it would most probably have it's own workings headcode still up. Not to say it couldn't be an efficient driver though, of which the ECML had many. (Added so as to not incur the wrath of Swindon123 of this parish!). Mike.
  3. There is of course one old bird driving who has never taken a test, or is required to have a driving licence, the only such person in the country. Mike.
  4. 5334. Inverness. 1.4.72. Back in the day, we assumed some had the existing doors welded up, and some, as above, just had mastic/filler applied. What quantifies weatherproofing, as I may have other pics. Mike.
  5. 200mm underground drainage pipe is readily available, or try googling 200mm acrylic tube, there should be plenty there to keep you amused. Mike.
  6. 2 for the price of one. 6525. Weymouth. 30.6.73. (and a coach). Mike.
  7. 5413, Derby works. 29.8.70. If you look closely, the weld lines of where the door and hinges were are starting to appear. Mike.
  8. Thanks for the replies, I never was sure, I'll put it in my Bakers! Mike.
  9. He'd make a good politician! Mike.
  10. Yorkshire foreplay; Brace thysen. Mike.
  11. In this situation, I don't think the Phoenix analogy was a perticularly good one to make!, although you are quite correct. Mike.
  12. Whilst you are powering any combination of 6 frogs, you are only setting 2 routes through the diamond, try thinking of it simplistically. Mike.
  13. A Bristol relared question if I may. I remember travelling from Sheffield Midland to Bristol Temple Meads in the summer of 1969, was the Mangotsfield route still a main line then, and would I have come in that way? The next time I did the journey a couple of years later I seemed to come in a different way. Mike.
  14. Mostly, but you know what Spain is like! Is my engineering yard seat still available?, I rather enjoyed the white knuckle ride on the AP7! Mike.
  15. The difference being? Mike. Who, in his ignorance, had assumed they were the same thing.
  16. That's why the Oakamoor sand trains had dedicated cattle wagons to protect the guard. Mike.
  17. Well, it worked, you noticed and remembered it and told thousands of other people! Mike.
  18. Re the point rodding. Maybe suffering the overscale stuff is the way to go on a large layout viewed from a distance, as LB is, might the "scale" version be too spidery? Mike.
  19. I usually use one of these, although not for soldering rail! Mike.
  20. As model shops in Spain are somewhat thin on the ground, I thought we could have a clearing house for reviews of shops, and any "how to obtain" type information. I know for anything specifically British based then mail order from the UK is the way to go, so maybe any comments on quality of service from Uk based shops could go here also. My experience of model shops over here is limited to these 2 so far. http://www.mecamodel.es/ Located in the centre of Alicante, conveniently round the corner from El Corte Ingles as a useful partner park, this is a small shop, but has a cross section of different hobbies represented. There is quite a bit of model railway stuff, primarily Spanish obviously, (with some smaller manufacturers specialist type rolling stock, like Railtrack in England), but amazingly enough a few Bachmann EWS wagons and a half decent selection of Peco and GF N gauge items, so there must be the demand, someone is hiding out there! The stock is in a glass display cabinet, which the owner opened for me without being asked, to allow me to have a closer look, (that's where the RENFE 7700 fascination really got hold!). A good selection of paint, glues and a few tools, brass and steel wire and tube and wood mouldings make this a useful shop, one I have used a few times. http://www.hobbymodelismo.es/ This company has 2 branches, one in the Thader shopping centre, (which is near to Ikea, another good partner park!), or the other in the centre of Murcia, which is the one one I went to, as I fancied a tram ride from Nuevo Condomina. A bit larger than the Alicante shop, this shop has a larger selection of model railway stock, a single GF N gauge Pullman being the entire British outline stock. A good selection of Kibri, Vollmer etc kits, HO road vehicles and figures, and a wider selection of HO rolling stock. I was hopeful of some building sheets, but the selection was none too good, but managed to come away with some, along with some Mr Hobby glue, so always good to find a stockist of this line. All in all, not a bad shop, but with nothing to greatly differentiate from the one above, for me, not worth the extra travel. Next time, maybe turning left onto the motorway might be on the agenda, as I believe there are some decent model shops in Valencia, especially a decent railway only one. Mike.
  21. Looks good. A better idea than adding another board which defeats the object of compact and bijou, Mike.
