  1. There has been a recent spate where the bridges won't close due to heat and trains being turned back. I didn't realise that apparently this time of year the bridges are opened to river traffic after the passage of all trains. A classic comment from a mate of mine who is a driver. When I told him this he said. ' well I've never seen one open!' Just as well or you would be quite wet!
  2. Just looking at your last picture Jim How can that clown who wrote an article about liveries he's designed in railway mag the other month think that HST looks good? What a dog's breakfast of a livery compared to the BR ones especially the original
  3. In those pre railnet days they worked mail trains out of there
  4. The 91s have never looked better than in the original livery. The latest one is probably the worst
  5. It's odd in the picture near the rushcutters that the water level must have risen as both rail bridges are the same height but the boat managed to get in the loop from the new river cut. When boats hit this bridge rail traffic is suspended until the bridge is examined
  6. A blue pre TOPS 37 would be a nice addition as to my knowledge Bachmann have never done one
  7. Old picture there Ernie, the loop has reappeared since that was taken. It's for stone trains to run round and propel onto the marsh for loading
  8. Hard to believe the class 45 in the picture is fully restored to working order and it's quite possible that some of the 37s outside the shed are still working for DRS Shame about the fate of the depot though
  9. Excellent pictures David. The view of Whitehouse is virtually unrecognisable today due to vegetation and road alterations
  10. A few years ago it seemed like Soham and the Ely loops were going to happen then it was all postponed. I agree that it is vitally important to safeguard freight paths especially if Sizewell gets the go-ahead
  11. No these weren't actually fitted with multiple working equipment, not sure if the continental versions had it. The BR ones were designed to pull a trailer but none were ever built
  12. A couple from work this afternoon the second being a bit self indulgent being taken by my mate
  13. Well it's a 122 for a start, not sure if that's what Brian means
  14. Did HSTs have jumper sockets behind the front drawbar cover?
  15. It may have had MU most pictures you see of APT power cars being tested with HSTs have only one power car so I've possibly wrongly assumed that the wiring from the APT was connected to the HST for running the APT. As I don't know what this consisted of it may be that both HST cars could power up together
  16. Thats a superb photo. With those numbers that's two D(E)MU vehicles in a train that has loco hauled stock plus an EMU vehicle. I take it this was in top and tail mode as I doubt the train was through wired for multiple unit operation of the two power cars
  17. It depends on whether the prototype HST is numbered 252001 or in the 41xxx series for power cars
  18. What happened to this car it looks quite a late picture
  19. I bet some of those people are no longer with us. It's very depressing that view seems like yesterday
  20. That ok Jonny, there's plenty of things I've believed in the past only to find it was wrong
  21. That was actually a pad to stop paintwork damage when changing tokens on the move. It was also fitted to Derby lightweight and yellow diamond metcams allocated to East Anglia Tablet catchers would have been just above the sole bar on the M&GN
