Dave F's photos - ongoing - more added each day

Now going back along the rake I think I've got a Fruit D, and LMS CCT (or is it a 6 wheel van?), but what's after that? Roof profile overhangs? Granted its at the limit of my zoom! Great photo.

Hi, Dave. Another great selection of photo's today. I also like the one of D307 at Beckfoot on that van train. Also, it would appear that is carrying an interesting disc headcode of three discs - one open on top, and the two above the buffers open. I do not recall seeing this headcode before. Has someone made a mistake, or is there another explanation?

Please keep the photo's coming.

All the best,

Market65.

I'd never noticed the headcode on D307, it must have been set incorrectly.    A very long time ago (the first set of Railway Clearing House headcodes, I think early 1900s) it signified an empty coaching stock train.  I can't find any reference to that combination of discs in my Ian Allan Headcode books from the 1960s.

A few more for the afternoon, taken last Saturday and Sunday.

Greenbank Saturday 27th September 2014 DSC_4225

I didn't see a train here, I just missed one by 5 minutes as I took a wrong turning - I think they have moved the roads since I was last in the area around 1970 when I was a student and explored the area with friends in someone else's car.  That day I couldn't afford any film which I've always regretted.

I was just walking back to the car thinking nothing was happening when I heard a train, so I was only able to get the going away shot.

Lastly, taken on Sunday morning, something for those who have a canal on their model railway.  It might prove a challenge to make a working model.

Hi, Dave. Excellent photo's. I find the Anderton Boat Lift very interesting. It would be good to see it in action.

The photo's of Bedlington are good ones. I particularly like C5457 of 37 217, a nice grubby 37!  And in photo' C5320, of 55008, I can hear the Deltic accelerating away as I look at the photo'.  Please keep the photo's coming.

Al the best,

Great to see those pics of Bedlington, Dave.

Looks like in that last pic, 37410 is departing Furnace Way Sidings with the Alcan tanks.

Furnace Way Sidings, Bedlington, is the inspiration and subject of my new layout which I've just started building and also started a thread here on RMWeb.

I would love to see any more pics you have of this location.

There will be more but I'll have to sort them out first, they still only exist as scans not colour corrected etc.  You are right about the location, the loco had just run round to head to Scotland via Morpeth and the ECML.

Edited to add a missing word.

Makes you realise how the Bluebell has changed over the years actually getting next to the locos try that now at any railway!   I think that those scenes have a special feel to them of past times not the slick operations of now it looks like a bunch of blokes running trains for fun.

The “Hook” ferries still run, I think.

I got very drunk on one with the Irish Cultural Attache for Copenhagen one year. They had to push my car off the ferry....

Best, Pete.

I take it that you were imbibing the Guinness then?

Best, Pete.

The Harwich - Hook ferries still run but the Harwich train ferry, like the Dover train ferry, no longer operates.  The train ferry services basically ended with the arrival of the Chunnel.  And in fact the railway no longer even gets to the Harwich linkspan as the Trinity House yard and workshops have been extended over the site of the line while the track layout by the station has been massively simplified, i.e. mostly done away with, since - I presume - the end of the train ferry

Moore Class 390 down 28th September 2014 DSC_4391

Moore is a vilage just south west of Warrington, at one time it had a station on the WCML which closed on 1st February 1943.   The station was to the south of the bridge on which I was standing.  There also used to be a station named Daresbury on the Birkenhead Joint Railway serving the same village.

Another visit to the Blyth and Tyne this evening, this time to Cambois.  There used to be a shed here, which was still in use when most of these photos were taken.

Hi, Dave. Excellent photo's. Great views of the WCML from late September.

The photo's of Cambois are very interesting, especially C8176, of 56 124 powering away, on 5th, January, 1987. Just look at that exhaust!

Please keep the photo's coming.

All the best,

Truly excellent photos - lots from the NE - my 'home' patch in days gone by....

A couple of bits of info to help you a bit....

Re photo C5011 from a few month's back your unidentified class 55 Deltic is 55021 (there are 2 distinct chips to the paintwork on the nose - one a large one to the right hand side of the nose) that gives it away.

Re photo C7062 at Carlisle - I think there was one other comment questioning the quoted destination of Stranraer - I have to agree - this working really, really looks like the morning Leeds - Carlisle (via the Settle & Carlisle) which later & I suspect in your shot started from Hull (07.38) - this was regularly doubleheaded eth class 31's at the time + Mk1 coaches and used to use that platform. I was a regular S&C photgrapher at the time!

Best wishes and keep them coming,

Deltic17
