RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 15, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2015 Lift to 0mm refers to lifting the line to the datum level, it's obviously sunk at that point. Thank you, JeffP. I did not know that. It is great when you can find things out like that. Thanks again for answering the question. With regards, Rob. 60091
Been away for a few days so I've enjoyed catching up with the latest additions to the topic. It a real shame I missed the freight services to Beverley - too busy chasing locos on the main lines. Also the disused rail locations brought back memories of cycle rides around the city and further afield. Going back to page 11 - here are a few shots of Selby taken c 1979-81. Living in Hull with a girlfriend at York I spent countless hours waiting to change trains here... always hoping for a Deltic... and the disapointment when a Finsbury Park 47/4 rolled in. RMweb Gold DaveF Posted October 15, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2015 This thread gets more interesting and enjoyable by the day. I wish I'd spent some time looking at these railways in the past. I do have a few of Dad's of Selby in my photo thread (and on flickr) and some of Hull etc to post when I get around to it.. PinzaC55
Hey 60091 those are GREAT shots ! I love the one with the Deltic approaching the bridge from the north - I always used to hang out of the window there.... "Wistful".
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 15, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2015 Alan, those are such terrific photo's of Selby, and that last one in the dark is just so photogenic! Please post more if you can, they will be so welcome. And, Dave, thank you as well for your very generous words and thoughts. Tonight, just one photo' from me. It is the aftermath of a fire in one of the old waiting rooms at Beverley station, in July, 1986. With best regards, Rob.
micknich2003
Springbank West Springhead, this was the last signalbox to be built by the H&BRly, and owing to "The Grouping" it proved to be a one off design. It was not opened until February 1923, and almost a year after the H&BRly had ceased to exist. It was a direct replacement for the original 1885 signalbox, and indeed in more ways then one "A Direct Replacement", the locking frame was moved into to the new 'box and without any alterations to the interlocking, or the signals.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 16, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2015 I will add that after that fire, that waiting room was no longer used, the gap in the wall was bricked up. Then, soon afterwards, the other one, visible in the photo' was taken out of use, and the gap left in the wall was bricked up as well. Finally there was a third one, not visible, and it lasted until, I think, the early 1990's. It was taken out of use after various issues including drug usage. So now there are no waiting rooms on that up platform. With regards, Rob.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 16, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2015 Hi. Just time to post two photo's from 23rd October, 1983. they show an engineers possession. The down line at Cherry Tree Beverley was being relaid that day. I remember a class 40 was one of the loco's powering one of the trains. Unfortunately cannot remember which one. With regards, Rob.
micknich2003
The same job, but from the signalbox.
micknich2003
Springbank West, signalling and layout has it was c1904, original Saxby & Farmer "Rocker Frame" of 1885, 31 levers, Spare Nil. Again, the signalling is worthy of comment. ttachment=632845:15_SPRIN.JPG]

60091
Alan, those are such terrific photo's of Selby, and that last one in the dark is just so photogenic! Please post more if you can, they will be so welcome. Thanks Rob I'll keep posting if I have anything relevant. Sadly the majority of my photos, at that time , were taken at locations like York, Doncaster and Sheffield. Interseting shots of the pw work at Beverley using Mermaids. How common were they around Yorkshire? I remember reading somewhere that they were a BR Southern Region wagon. ...and here are my only photos of an engineers train in Hull. A dismal October morning in 1985. 37 127 photographed (IIRC) under the Anlaby Rd flyover, my way to work. The quality is poor as I only had my 35mm instamatic with me. I stopped to photograph it as I thought it would be an interesting formation to model, especially the variety of brakevans. 60091
A rare occasion when I didn't have to go chasing locos at York or Doncaster. ... a busy morning at Paragon. The date is 4th May 1985 and either Hull or KR were off to Wembley. We'd heard that there were 8 loco hauled services due to leave for London. This was the only occasion I ever got out of bed to go and take photographs at Paragon. Why did I only take 2 photos on such a busy morning? I'm assuming a couple of others were ruined - no tripod on an overcast morning... For the record.. the locos were 47406 (1st photo alongside the HST) 408, 419, 527, 187 (2nd photo), 414 and 522. The 8th service was an 8 car mixed formation DMU. Alll departed between 6 05 and 8 20am. The two pilots 08 885 and 777. Other services..31 403 to (in my notbook) Bradford???, 31 450 Manchester Piccadilly, 31 447 to Cardiff (2nd photo on AC Mk2s) and 31 438/467 to Carlisle. micknich2003
A war time view of Paragon signalbox. Seventy odd years on, the "Battle Scars" are still inside the 'box, and clearly visible.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted October 18, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2015 Thank you Alan and Mick for those excellent photo's. And that one of Paragon Signal box in W.W.II. is most fascinating, showing the damage that was caused. Tonight, and late it is, are two photo's of Beverley station from the winter of 2008/09. They show the station in the snow. I thought that I would post them, for they show how things that are familiar can be so different when covered in snow. JeffP
Interesting, the shot of the bombing in Hull. Although Hull was the second worst bombed city in the UK, the BBC, when doing a documentary about the blitz, chose to ignore anywhere except London. Their reason? "We couldn't find a local celebrity to present the Hull part....". Aye, right.
Judge Dread
Interesting, the shot of the bombing in Hull. Although Hull was the second worst bombed city in the UK, the BBC, when doing a documentary about the blitz, chose to ignore anywhere except London. Their reason? "We couldn't find a local celebrity to present the Hull part....". Aye, right. Local history has it that the Luftwaffe bombed Hull on their outward trips to start marker fires to aid their return and then if they had any bombs left over they would drop those as well. A little known fact is that Hull was also the target of V1 flying bombs, air launched from aircraft from Norway. There still is a site which has not been touched since it was bombed in 1941 save having an advertising hoarding built in front of it, this link explains www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/Hull/NationalPictureTheatreHull.htm
