I don't think too much will be happening on the P Way front today, so here's a photo of 40564 piloting 34045 Ottery St. Mary on the down Pines Express at Combe Down Tunnel in 1961.

I'd send it back if I were you.

You clearly ordered a grey one, but it looks like they've sent you a black one.

Didn't they do any pretty mauve ones?

:read: I do not like correcting people but this is a case where I feel I should do so. There is no colour called mauve, it is PURPLE.

Same goes for violet, indigo, wine, lavender, aubergine, modena, magenta, lilac, cardinal, mulberry, grape, ruby, fandango, cranberry, blush, purpureus, boysenberry, ube, eggplant, orchid, petunia, fuchsia, phlox, Byzantium, amethyst, eminence, or razzmic berry. They are all PURPLE. :rtfm:

And one should never paint trains purple. :nono:  Ladies bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens (under protest) can be but nothing else. :swoon:

If I recall correctly Porterbrook did paint a Brush Type 4 in purple and silver?

First coach... Gresley... I got those. You got those?

Ar$£

Not yet, got a Thompson BG in kit form to throw together one rainy afternoon though.

One of my paper colours at work is called 'Tundra', strange name for a shade of lilac*.

* Proper purple would come out with a very dark grey or black background if copied from the same colour original using a b&w machine.

Well... what a day I've 'ad!

'er indoors got in touch from the Dam of Hampsters to say she won't be home until at least Thursday as my little step princess (who has broken her collar bone whilst combining cycling with alcohol and having a car door opened on her) can't get to see a specialist Dr until then. It's a case of pin it or grin and bear it :(

Nola's car is due an MOT tomorrow but I'm not insured in it, so pants. So popped up the garage with the keys and a map of where it is (well why would you park somewhere conspicuous). Very nice man at the garage..

Finally got my toys out but after an hour or so's fiddly diddling I've come to the conclusion that today isn't the day (mainly due to a high failure rate and a stiff neck).

At least I have the housework and laundry to look forward to.

There's always tomorrow and it will be more fun with the potential of burning myself.

Oh, also discovered my Carr's Solder Crème is still usable after 10 odd (insane) years :)

PS: still haven't got me P out yet!

Just been finking about the electric glue stuff and the rivets.

What I found easier at the time was to tin the sleepers timbers first then sweat on the rivets but this resulted in a success rate of around 50%.  Just wondering if I should put a drop of flux between the tinning and the rivet* in the hole and sweat together?

*just (another) thought, if I cleaned the rivets first they might glue on the copper betterer...

Clean metal plus a drop of flux should work fine.

Oh, and give the whole lot a good wash in some hot water afterwards, when it's all complete.

An old toothbrush helps to get into the nooks and crannies.

So, after cleaning both surfaces (copperclad & rivet) should I be adding a drop of flux, pop in the rivet then apply heat and solder?

TIA

There is medication for that but I don't need it.

Fablos advice Captain, thank you.

Stuck on some more rivets, with 100% success thanks to the Captain's method above.

I didn't last too long as me shoulder is somewhat smarting (note to self, take Dr drugs first) but all is good. It does look a complete mess though but as I've never built one this way, I have no idea what it's supposed to look like at this stage.

I have no idea what I want for dinner no idea at all.
