Popular Post rapidoandy
Rapido Trains UK is delighted to add one of Britain’s most famous locomotives to its range: Metropolitan Railway 0-4-4T No. 1. Launched to coincide with the 160th anniversary of the start of railway services on the Metropolitan Railway, ‘Met 1’ brings a model from the Tube’s history back to life for many to enjoy. ‘Met 1’ played a central role in January 2013’s 150th anniversary celebrations of the Tube when it brought steam back to London Underground’s tunnels for the first time since 1971. As a consequence of celebrating the opening of the world’s first underground railway, No. 1 challenged the likes of Flying Scotsman or Thomas The Tank Engine as the world’s most famous steam engine. 2023 also marks the 125th anniversary of the Met 1 locomotive which was first built in 1898 at the historic Neasden Works in northwest London. Visitors to the London Festival of Railway Modelling on March 18th/19th will be able to see the first Engineering Prototype being put through its paces and enjoy the detail and design carefully included in the new addition to the Rapido range Sales & Marketing Manager Richard Foster said, “As No. 1 was essentially a one-off, it has some unique features and detail differences. Therefore, we’ve just produced No. 1, which has become a bit of an icon. We have discovered that classmate No L48 (formerly Metropolitan No. 81) was close enough in detail to be able to offer that too.” Ellen Sankey, Brand Licensing Manager at Transport for London said: “The Tube is a true London icon, connecting people across the capital and transporting tourists and commuters across the city. This new model of ‘Met 1’ brings a model from the Tube’s history back to life for enthusiasts and collectors to enjoy.” No. 1 is being offered in two preservation era liveries: the livery is carried between 1999 and 2009 and the take on the 1920s Metropolitan livery that it has carried since 2013. Rapido also plans to offer two London Transport liveries, including ‘Met 1’ as No. L44. All models have been fully licensed from Transport for London. ‘Met 1’ has the high specification one would expect from a Rapido Trains UK model. Fine detail, a smooth and powerful mechanism, flickering firebox, Next18 decoder socket and factory-fitted sound speaker. Sound-fitted versions are also available. All ‘Met 1’ models are available to order now and the order book closes on July 3rd 2023. Production will commence shortly after and delivery expected towards the end of 2023. You can order from your local Rapido Trains UK stockist or direct from our own website. Chesham set or carriage 353 next maybe? :-)
GreenGiraffe22
Not for me, but I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to do it! Bound to be popular, no denying that Metropolitan Railway livery is pretty stunning!

Bound to be popular, no denying that Metropolitan Railway livery is pretty stunning! It was on "the list" from a good few years ago of prototypes that had been scanned so I'm surprised it has taken this long (like the class 84 AC electric). And it's almost like Rapido Trains are stalking me, no.1 daughters first ever train ride was behind no.1 and in coach 353 at Quainton Road, and is called Beatrice-the subject of another Rapido model. I do feel however that without a supporting train for it to pull, E class models will be consigned to dragging whatever early teak bogie or 4 wheel coaches can be cobbled together to represent a steam on the met working, with or without a Heljan Met electric. I'm sure Rapido have something on mind but will it be the Chesham set or the Dreadnoughts that the latter loco desperately needs. It just a question now of deciding which version I need to join the six Met electrics... 3
Mark Dickerson
My sort of false-jeopardy-and-icon-related announcement... 😁 Wow. +1 to Dreadnoughts, but it could haul quite a lot more in preservation. Michael Hodgson
An attractive engine and the early Metropolitan Railway livery is very pretty, as is the later one. I think they've missed a trick if both versions are produced as no 1 though, presumably for a short period some members of the class were in the newer livery while rest had not yet been repainted. Price isn't mentioned on the postings above, but from their site is £179.95, wih sound £100 extra which seems to be about the going rate these days. I can't really justify it, though it does appeal, but 0-4-4Ts are notorious for needing plenty of weight in the nose end to run adequately, so I'll reserve judgment on it for now. Should sell well all the same.

RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted March 16, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2023 Hello everyone Congratulations to Rapido on this announcement - we hope the project will be a great success. Although 'Underground' hasn't been in The 00 Wishlist Poll since 2018, the Met E Class had been in the The Top 50 in 2014, 2016 and 2018. It was only just outside in 2015. Curlew
I wonder how much this was a Met design and how much a Hawthorn Leslie design? Could make a great generic loco for fictitious railways too? 3

drt7uk
I don't think I've ever literally punched the air in delight in response to a model release, but I have done when you announced the Jones Goods and now this! Have been wanting Met 1 for ages, so thank you. Just need to choose which livery!

RMweb Premium nightstar.train Posted March 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2023 Having just acquired a Met Bo-Bo and an LT pannier tank this is going to be a must buy for me. Looks like it’ll be a stunning model. The question is wether to get the early preserved or currently preserved version.
Erixtar1992
What an absolute treat this was to do. Cant thank Rapido enough. I guess i will be needing all 4… Someone give Hattons the hurry up on their Genesis Met coaches please…
Rising Standards
Looks lovely. I'm also very pleased to see wiper pickups on the driving wheels on this, rather than the axle bearing pickup arrangement on the Hunslet.

As they've now taken out LNWR Oerlikons as well as the entire Underground category, I can only hope this Only Way To Win Is Not To Play strategy continues to bear fruit... 😛 Hopefully good news for the LT Museum Shop, too. 1
Bluebell Model Railway
It's been a long time coming, I think an opportunity was missed over the anniversaries of the underground from 2013... Would of been a major selling point.. obviously now it's the Met Es anniversary now although that's a bit of a smaller interest. Will be interesting to see how it sells. Lucky I've already made one earlier 😅

Iirc… This one was never built. Has no builders plate. its a mysterious rebuild of seemingly all new parts that just happened to fall together in the right order in the works. What a fantastic idea to do this one, some coaches for it would be nice too. Edited March 16, 2023 by adb968008

As an aside, I visited this a few days ago for the first time in quite a while. A shadow of its former self unfortunately, particularly now that the Waterloo Ian Allan is gone. Great news about the new loco though. And please let’s have some Dreadnoughts. Edited March 16, 2023 by Downer
Mark Dickerson
That's a shame - I was planning to visit soon (although I think I've been since it shrank). Even so: potential Shiny Thing for tourists with deeper pockets (who probably won't be bothered by the lack of period stock).

AMJ
Perhaps a 4TC in the fake Teak as used by the steam on the Met could be used behind it with the Bo-Bo on the other end
