RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted June 25, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 25, 2014 Back to the East Coast main line this evening for a look at Swayfield, south of Stoke Tunnel. Over the years this has been the haunt of many photographers, at one time we both lived only a few miles away so Dad and I often went there on Saturday afternoons. Now and then one of us would get there on a weekday as well. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 25, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 25, 2014 Hi, Dave. What wonderful photo's of the ECML you have posted here this evening. The first one, has indeed a Thompson Buffet Car - one of the ex-Flying Scotsman Buffet Lounge cars to D 352, and will be either number 1705 or 1706. They lasted to 1979 and were, apparently, the last pre-BR carriages in main line use. Great to see those two photo's of class 55 Deltics - always one of the big favourites. Please keep these excellent photo's coming. All the best, Market65.
Peter Kazmierczak
That first picture of the up Cl.40 is beautifully lit David, with a real "end of summer" feel to it. Last time I was at Swayfield they were rebuilding the bridge for electrification. The contractors thought I was an offical BR photographer recording the scene.

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted June 26, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) North Wales today. A couple of Blaenau Ffestiniog from the Gloddfa Ganol Quarry for starters, a few more later on. At this time the Ffestiniog Railway terminated at Tan y Grisiau, it reopened to Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1982, with both the (then) BR and Ffestiniog trains terminating in a new station, built on the site of the old GWR/FR station. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted June 26, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 26, 2014 I think the Festiniog was as far advanced as Dduallt in 1970, so possibly even further by 1979?
Irishswissernie
I think the Festiniog was as far advanced as Dduallt in 1970, so possibly even further by 1979? Tanygrisiau is further than Dduallt! Possibly you are confusing it with Tan-y-Bwlch. Re-opened to Tanygrisiau 24 June 1978 Ernie

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 26, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) Hi, Dave. Excellent photo's of the line to Blaenau Ffestiniog. In the one, C5730, at Dolwyddelan, which is a very atmospheric view, the units are class 120 and class 108(those four character headcode boxes can make them look a bit like a class 107 at a distance). Also note in photo's C4706 and C4703, the way in which the cab end of the class 108 DMBS has been badly bashed by the air-pipe. This was an apparently common problem with the class 108 DMU's. Anyway, another terrific set of photo's, and please keep them coming. All the best, Market65. Edited to remove a word. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 27, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 27, 2014 Hi, Dave. Excellent set of photo's of Teesside. I particularly like the one of class 37 37713 at Newport. It has a great lighting effect, with the sun at a low angle, and the rails shining in the shadows, plus some multi-coloured bushes on the other side of the lines. Please keep the photo's coming. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted June 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 28, 2014 Hi, Dave. Good to see the photo's of Edge Hill. The photo' of class 08 3033 has got me interested, for there would appear to be two bits of red material either side of the cab door. I wonder what they might have been? The class 25 is very clean and is showing up the grubby class 304 EMU's! Please keep these great photo's coming. All the best, Market65.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted June 29, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) Something a little bit different this evening, the early days of preservation on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway when some locos and stock wore "different" liveries. A brief note about the liveries. At the time many thought that people woudn't want to visit a preserved line with locos in BR liveries as people around then could remember BR locos, and the state many of them were in. Also in the "old" days when a light railway company bought a loco from a main line company they repainted it, or at least removed the previous owners insignia - this was often a condition of the sale, so in a way this was simply a continuation of an old practice. Keighley 41241 July 68 J1341 This was taken a week after the railway reopened by the KWVLR having been closed by BR in 1962 (the last BR passenger train was on 31/12/1961). In the foreground is Rev E R "Teddy" Boston who some of you may have known. He was with Dad and I, I remember we collected him at one of the M1 service areas near Nottingham where he left his car for the day - long before they introduced the 2 hour parking limits.
