Dave F's photos - ongoing - more added each day

Recommended Posts

Given that Southern vans seem to turn up in almost every photo, maybe a slight exaggeration but you get the drift, did they have any on their own patch? :jester:

They made so many they could overlook the few that 'escaped' on to 'foreign' railways...

You're right though - every set of photos manages to include at least one SR PMV/PMY/CCT in it...

Hi, Dave. Excellent photo's. Agree about the fact the last one at Sudbury is a good summation of the mid '70's BR. The unit is also a hybrid, with a class 101 DTCL. Great to see 920001 at Marks Tey, October '75. Don't seem to see much about that unit these days - has it been largely forgotten, I wonder. Thanks for these photo's and please keep them coming.

All the best,

Love the photo of the DMU at Bures. Spent a couple of week-long Scout camps at Lamarsh in the mid 70s watching the DMU shuttle back and forth.

As for the shots from Old Leigh I might have been just out of shot on many of them!

Very nostalgic and thanks for bringing back so many memories. :)

A trip to Trent today on the Midland.  It was always a pleasant place to spend a few hours though sadly, unlike Dad, I was not there with a camera to take photos of the station.  Some of the photos were taken of the Nottingham line at Trent lane level crossing, others at Trent itself, just about in front of the railway cottages.

It was also a pleasant walk down the lane to the river and lock on a fine day, some photos there may appear at a later date.

David,

I always thought that the location was Meadow Lane level crossing.

You are correct, a memory lapse (which has lasted many years).  Having lived in Nottingham at one time I ought to know!  I've altered the captions.

Hi, Dave. I like the first photo' of the class 104 at Meadow Lane Crossing - very atmospheric. That last one of 47235 at Trent, April '80, is one which shows a 47 in a nice 'dusty' weathered finish - just right for modelling. Please keep the photo's coming.

All the best,

When I lived in Manchester I sometimes used to get the train from Piccadilly on a Saturday to travel to Dinting to have a look at the steam centre which was there in those days.

A few photos below.  The ones taken in 1971 were yet another day I took off from revising for my finals - but I generally organised things so I didn't need to do  work for my degree at weekends..

Hi, Dave. Good to see the photo's, especially those at Dinting. I seem to recall either Magpie or Blue Peter making a programme from Dinting at about this time, or is my memory playing tricks? Anyway, thanks for these photo's, and please keep them coming.

All the best,

Don't worry, there will be more Woodhead electrics later on.

Liked the casual reference to your Dyane a few days ago David. Hope it had disc brakes - ours doesn't!! :O

My first one,R reg in orange didn't, the later yellow and blue ones did - thank goodness.

Seeing the picture of "Bahamas" at Dinting reminded me how odd a Jub. looked with a double chimney especially that one which shows the two apparently separate exhausts above the rim. In my spotting days it was 45742 "Connaught" that carried it. Ugly!

Hi, Dave. I do agree with Western Sunset, that it is a very 'steamy' photo' that first one that has been posted this evening. It reminds me of when  I was on a class 108 departing Hull in the mid-eighties, and the leading power car was throwing out thick white smoke! Two old ladies sat on a seat opposite to me said something like, 'this is a steam-hauled train isn't it?'. One other thing about the photo' is that it is another of those 'hybrid' units, with three class 104 cars leading, with the class 101 car at the rear.

This has brought old memories alive for me, and please do keep the photo's coming.

All the best,

Market65.

Didn't see Michael Caine in the car park then?

Mike.

Wrong side of the Tyne, pet..

IIRC, the red-brick building behind the 47 was the offices above/next-to the power station for the former tramway system; by the time we moved up there in 1982, the downstairs bit was some sort of Corporation depot.

Regarding the demolition work- they were just finishing off what Goering had started. Manors goods depot had been hit during a bombing raid during WW2. By the time the photo was taken, all full-loads and sundries traffic had been moved to Tyneside Central Freight Depot for about 15 years or so.
