Watching the ceremony on BBC1. On the Red Button it can be seen without commentator babble.

      Well worth it.

I was in Newcastle today for the service there - that was very moving.

This time last year we were at the small, but moving ceremony in Ivybridge Town Centre. This year we were in 'A&E' in our local Minor Injuries Unit.

  6. Very warm and breezy+ here on the sunny Devon Riviera. Strange burning smell in Cornwall, Plymouth and North Devon with very odd skies. http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/plymouth-news/burning-smell-strange-skies-reported-631827

Indeed Mike. The entertainment was the sporadic masts east of Parkway, nothing at all at BPW and full wiring in the distance westwards. What larks!

      That's east of Tiverton, isn't it ?

  10. is thoroughly pi**ed off by combative keyboard oiks that have caused the 'MRJ - Looking back at the early ones (for the first time)' thread to be locked. This was an interesting thread looking back at modelling methods that have changed over the years amongst other things. It would be hoped that any future MRJ threads do not degenerate into objectionable posting. The magazine , with all its rights, wrongs and errors is still a venerable publication that many of us on here enjoy.

The really interesting journey, however, would have been that from Lower Vowchurch to Churchwater Rise on the narrow gauge.

I have the book. It must be true.

  17. enjoyed watching the film 'Kon-Tiki' last night. A 'model' of it was the first thing that was built at 6 years old. It all started from that!

    1. bgman

Missed that, ironically though I too made a model in my younger years from balsa.

      The Stationmaster

  18. loved seeing Barry Gibb. All those songs that he and his brothers wrote for so many greats. Takes me back 40 years. #smilesandfeelinggood.

  19. thought that the Foo Fighters set last night was just the best, particularly the Queen stuff. Great entertainment.

  20. is sad that the heat has gone (with due deference to CK!) but is looking forward to Pimms o'clock. The IEP looked smart this morning at Totnes.

To widen the argument, food historians claim the haggis was in English cookbooks 130 years before appearing in Scotland. Now we have another army heading south to Derby (again)

  22. Bloody B & Q. What an abysmal service they provide. A £200+ order has been cancelled despite being informed that it was available. Over an hour trying to get onto their 'customer service' + order checking site not responding. What a waste of space. Someone else will now get the order.
