Graham Farish - Winter 2023 Announcements

New tooling for the Graham Farish range this Winter sees the HRA Bogie Hopper Wagons produced in N scale too, however another major development is the upgrading of the Class 47 Diesel Locomotive. Not only has new tooling been produced to model the ‘Crewe-Cut’ locomotives, but technical advancements have seen the models gain cab lights, independently controlled directional lights, a Next18 DCC decoder interface and an integrated speaker, allowing SOUND FITTED models to be launched. Further versions of the Class 158 2-Car DMU have been added to the range, along with more Ivatt 2MT and Standard 5MT
locomotives. Meanwhile, the rolling stock fleet welcomes additional Mk1 and Mk2F coaches and several new mineral wagons.

Well strictly speaking nothing here for me.

But that's only because I am not buying presently - lots of N gauge rolling stock that I could purchase if I wanted to.

Pleased to see that the Next18 treatment has finally reached those 47s so we can expect more of those in future announcements.

More steam engines suggests that sales must be good so hopefully new tooings in the future too.

These past two annoucements have been a bit of an N bonanza and I still reckon there is a Peak to come sometime.

Think it's been the worst kept secret that the 47 would feature an upgraded chassis, so good to see it finally announced.

The HRA looks great and one of those EMT 158s will definitely be heading my way!

It's really great to see N Gauge now featuring regularly and in volume in these announcements.

@TomE It's been quite a rollercoaster for those Crewe Cut 47s - first with sound, then the sound versions disappeared and it was claimed they would remain 6 pin models whilst other models were getting Next18 (like the class 14) and then it became obvious what was going on but still no confirmation from Bachmann.

Probably because the 47 was one of the last remaining backlog items so they stuck to their policy on not pre-announcing tooling changes.

They're here now, a 37 upgrade cannot be too far away either - just as I upgrade my own to sound.

I had hoped (but not expected) that given the length of time since that last all new tool steam loco was released we might have seen something new in that respect to round off 2023, but on the plus side there is still a good volume of N coming through which is a big improvement on where things were not so long ago. As has been said elsewhere the Class 47 sound upgrade has been expected for some time, so isn't a huge surprise, but it would have been good to see the popular early BR two-tone green with small panel and BR blue (pre or post-TOPS) included rather than just more modern liveries.

The military liveried EFE J94s were nice to see, and had they appeared in the initial run I would have chosen one of those as an initial purchase but having already purchased two, another would be a bit of an indulgence, however I am tempted as they are lovely little models.

The phrase "nothing for me here" does spring to mind, but I haven't done too badly this year in terms of new items so I can say that without any huge element of disappointment this time.

Interesting to see a second run of GWR 158's, I am pretty sure the first run still haven't arrived yet!

I'm guessing pre-orders may have been good.  I think it's due in the next few weeks.  A bit disappointed that a TfW 158 hasn't been announces, I guess the Arriva Trains Wales one will have to do for now.

Good that the 47/8s have Next 18, perhaps the Swallow livery will follow in the future.

And Rails of Sheffield have an exclusive Fairsh 47/6 on the way,  47628 Sir Daniel Gooch in GWR green.   According to the blurb it is only 6 pin though.  A tad dissapointing perhaps.

Edit:  Rails website updated and it's Next 18 fitted.  So that's promising for other Farish 47s then.

Where did you find thta? First I have heard of it, great news though as I would love one of these. I would suspect it will have the same 18 pin chassis as the others. Either Bachmann did not tell Rails so they didnt let it slip or Rails kept it quiet so as not to spoil the "surprise" announcement today

UPDATE

Sound fitted also available here

I found it browsing the Rails website.  There was a link on their hompage to the Bachamann Winter announcements, which lead to a 'View the Range' link, and then 47628 was the first item that came up when I filtered for N gauge.

Interestingly the sound version wasn't there, or I didn't see it perhaps.   But that's good as it probably does mean that the non sound would likely be N18 too I imagine.

If only they'd done 47500 'Great Western'.  That kept it's green livery for longer.  Still good to have 628 though.

I wonder if this means other 47/4s have been produced?

Possibly just uploading it as you looked, can't even pre-order it yet so guessing its not "officially" announced. I know they did at least two of the GWR 47's in OO - 628 and 484. So presumably its the old copied art work matter here. This does beg the question will any limited edition 47's appear? I half expected the club to do 798 or 799

My wallet breaths a sigh of relief!

It's a bit sad that there's still no Mk2a BSO in Regional Railways (did such a thing exist or were they all Mk2b/c), ditto no re-run of Mk2a TSO in blue/grey (both missing from the last re-run on Mk2a).

A nice spread of models - I had hoped for a WYPTE class 158. It's a shame the Regional Railways 158 is a copy and paste of the livery on 371-850 - one with "Express" branding would have been more interesting.

Perhaps Spring 2023 will bring both along with some more class 47 liveries? Along with new liveries on the likes of the class 37 and 90. Surely the 37 has to be next for a Next18 upgrade?

I would hope more 47 liveries will follow, especially earlier ones, and I absolutely agree that the 37 with it's long life and huge range of variations in detail and liveries simply has to be high on the list.

Yep definatley updated now, thanks for the heads up.

The catalogue number and description are different, and there are numerous pictures now instead of just standard catalogue style picture.

So good news for the 47s, and a Christmas pressie for me if I can persuade the Mrs.

Another positive announcement for N gauge.  It is good to see that there are extended runs of models with alternative running numbers.

I would imagine next year there will be a fair few class 47's announced with some regional exclusives (could I please have 47475 in provincial, 47973 in Midland Counties maroon and a Crewe allocated Stanlow Petroleum example please).

It'll be difficult not to be tempted by a RR 158.....

Pleased about the 47 and would imagine further liveries early next year with possibly regional dealer liveries too. Will be patient and await a blue one. Can't help wondering if it is only Rails with an exclusive, news to come at a time of their choosing from Kernow?

Not many diesels awaiting a sound upgrade now, from memory just 20, 24, 25, 37 and 66. Hard to imagine those not being worked on with a couple appearing in 2024 along with the 69. Will be interesting to see where farish go when those upgrades across the existing range are complete. Plenty of existing steam tooling to work their way through in respect of sound upgrades of course but next steps in D&E in the next couple of years is intriguing

Don't aquire steamers very often but really tempted by a sound 2mt. A combination of it being 46464 which I'm sure pulled my train on a childhood visit to the Strathspey plus the minitix one being my starter loco in N at a similar time may be to overwhelming from a nostalgia perspective.

Also good to see a further supply of coaches so soon to top up supplies. We aren't going back to the days of always available I'm sure,  but not quite the once and gone of more recent times either.

All in all the 2023 announcements seem to be getting closer to what Bachmann probably envisaged with the quarterly approach before a few real world problems got in the way. Here's hoping so

These are the bogies from the Mk.1 pullman coaches, and they don't fit the standard Mk.1s.

The main difference is the NEM coupler attachment being part of the bogie moulding on these where as on the standard Mk.1 the coupling is on a body mounted kinematic system.
