Bodmin Bob
Am I the only person who thinks that TMC seem to charge an awful lot for their weathered items? The attached shows their weathered 2 car Brighton Belle unit in blue/grey available for £204 This raises 2 questions: Firstly how can you charge so much for what appears to be a 30 second spray job (these train packs are available unweathered elsewhere for around £100 and you can get the full 5 car set for about £240)? Secondly when did you ever see a weathered Brighton Belle in real life (whenever I saw it in the 1960s it was always spotless right up until the end)? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TMC-Hornby-R2988-Pullman-Brighton-Belle-1969-Train-Pack-Weathered-/251345209373?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3a8557881d

Ian Abel
Not exactly "madness" as this is certainly a unique/rare item, but does anyone actually buy something for this amount on eBay??? More importantly for 25USD shipping I'm not sure that would cover the insured loss value, I think the USPS, UPS or FedEx would have a slight premium on the shipping of an item that valuable! http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-OO-SCALE-VERY-RARE-SALESMANS-SUITCASE-IN-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-/301269119011?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item462509f023#ht_776wt_1158 Edited August 6, 2014 by Ian Abel

haslam999
I'm surprised nobody has replied to your post, Terry. I totally agree. There is a lot of very poor weathering appearing on eBay items, mainly from two sources: 1. Buy a new item, spray a bit of brown round the bottom and list it for three times the prices, claiming to be 'professionally weathered' 2. Buy a job lot of ex-Lima/Hornby stuff from the 1980's and 1990's, give it a heavy coat of brown stuff and whack it on eBay Most of it is poor, in terms of the fact that the person who did it clearly has never seen a real-life item (or even a photograph) to work from. But, what really frustrates me is how they weather the front of engines. Like this Brighton Belle unit, they have merely sprayed a bit of brake dust etc. round the front, like what appears across the side of the body of engines. Errrmmm....really? Have you ever seen an engine with a thin coat of brown along the bottom of its front? It reminds me of the Heljan class 47, number 47555, which came factory weathered and had just the most ridiculous amount of brown dirt simply sprayed around the bottom half inch of the loco. Search it online....it is terrible! Anyhow, yes I agree, but that's what makes the "eBay madness" topic so compelling to read... Mike P.S. The TTA tanks from TMC are really good actually....just wish they sold them in batches of 10, 15 or 20, instead of 4 or 5 at a time. If they did, think I would be tempted....

PS Just noticed the 'DS' in the Bachmann reference number - so it probably does have bells and whistles - still seems very expensive for what it is though Edited August 7, 2014 by Bodmin Bob

84A
Certain locos from the Great Gathering/Goodbye sets appear to be hitting saturation. That being said, i'm hoping no-one pays £950 for this lot: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-GREAT-GATHERING-/221517756677?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item33937cb905 Many are damaged (top lampiron and others missing) - and one needs the wires repairing. Plus, all of the cabinet vouchers have gone.
