EBay madness

I've seen similar for books that are available from other sellers for a tenner. I'm sure it's just a placeholder, where a retailer doesn't have stock but knows that it is likely they will have some in the future.

I agree with what you say, but to me it would put me off looking at this seller again.

I am struggling to understand why this poor sorry pile of broken scrap commanded anything more than twenty quid:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301265520720?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Not down to the seller though, as it started at 99p.

Could the unsuccessful bidder m***n be our old friend micmcn I wonder? Would explain a lot about his pricing :D.

It's probably because this version is an uncommon one and not easy to find.  The power of the 'rare & collectable' to overcome common sense, even in this state!

How on earth did it get to such a state?...

That actually looks like our unwelcome friend mazak contamination - the tell-tale crazing of the metal in the front frame suggests that not only did the entire section snap off the rest, but it was also on the point of disintegrating into dust, just like the Bachmann Maunsell Mogul footplate.

Seller did well to get sixty quid-plus, but if the winning bidder actually intends to repair it, he's going to be badly disappointed as I think this is a component that Hornby won't supply as a spare.....

30119's claim to fame is that it was, for a time, one of the Royal Engines.

Yet a few months ago I picked up one of these special editions complete mint and boxed for a sliver under eighty notes. They are not as rare as some people seem to think....

I was out at thirty

That's as far are I was willing to go. Thought it looked more like it had been dropped and was repairable. Wouldn't mind another T9, but only a cheap one.

Just found a chassis for it.

Less than 3 quid a yard for O gauge track wouldn't be too bad if it hadn't been held down with 6" nails through every other sleeper.

It's hardly "AWESOME" or "IMMACULATE USED CONDITION", but still reasonable value. The damaged sleepers can be removed or the holes filled in.

Ah but everything that this individual sells is 'awesome' http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/csmodelsweathered/m.html?item=201148570151&hash=item2ed5639a27&pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

so it must be.

But it is AWESOME track!  One of the most overused and unnecessary words used in ebay descriptions IMHO.

Stupidly, "awful" still truly means "full of awe" which implies positive. Not sure where our definition comes from.

Originally, but it's meaning has changed with time. (A bit like 'fantastic', which was the fashion before 'awesome'.)
