No matter what type of forum or threads posted in it you can never please everybody who can read and post in it. The one thing that is never needed is the bickering of whether the wrong colour, who is the best, wrong information to what I know or that could never happen till picture / written or video proof proves otherwise etc. If person(s) cant read what they need to know and ignore the rest then it is there problem and no need to grumble to the rest.

This has been a great thread not only in the damage caused and how it was fixed, but also the information people supplied from outside sources and people in the industries that took time to provide information that could only be gained by being there on the ground and taking personal time to inform us better of the job in hand. It has also been great to see folk show their interest and show their human nature and humour on the serious event that happened.

I would hate to see this get locked for bickering just before the job is completed with rail service back in operation and the repairs to road as well.

so those with humour...

Go Dawlish Go the orange army :sungum:   :locomotive:

Look forward too the pictures CK when your back is up to it but not before  and Thanks for doing it all.

latest screen shot of nice new track and yet at the same time looks dull / empty without all the equipment & work force.... probably just me

Orange army withdrawal symptoms. There's probably a self-help group... :dontknow:

Seriously, you're right. I thought the same when looking at the webcam view earlier!

Whats wrong with a bit of fun all those who complain about it seem to be missing something in their life I think.[/quot

I can understand Missy point but how could you reply to a posting if you felt it needed a bit of a laugh and you were not allowed to

because humour wasnt allowed.

In a few weeks there's the King's birthday (April 26, IIRC), followed a week or so later by the festivities (and commemorations!) of Remembrance and Liberation Day (May 4&5 respectively). Plenty of "Orange Army" to satisfy your needs ;)

RMwebbers are more then welcome to join in the festivities and we'd invite you to take part in the commemorations, should you be here on May 4th at 8 PM  (where's the military salute smiley when you need one ;) )

I had not realised that you held a Liberation Day.!

Very well done,  I am all in favour of Remembrance etc. No one should forget what happened during 1939-1945.

Keith.

It just does not look right without the big red spidery thing! I wonder where it is now?

Seriously, we should all be grateful to the Orange Army for their hard work and to those who took the trouble to explain the finer details of the work being undertaken. I found it much more interesting with CK and Others' explanations, it would be nice to think that such good and open dialogue will continue in the future on other big projects. Network Rail could certainly use this example of positive communication and encourage it elsewhere on the network.

I trust the residents of Dawlish Warren take the trouble to thank the Orange Army for such a professional repair job when it is all finished and tidied up.

I saw a Renault Megane in Exeter yesterday with a sticker in the window reading "NO PASTIES ARE LEFT IN THIS VEHICLE OVERNIGHT."

Anybody we know?

John

Perhaps he'd heard that CK was in the area.

There are a few celebrations in the town on friday connected with the re-opening but I think you'll find nothing but praise for all those who'vd worked so hard over these last couple of months from the people of Dawlish.Indeed local forums are suggesting some kind of "thank you".

Will the track be weathered before it is opened to the public or will it be left until a later date?

Reality says once a few HST`s have run up and down a few times the human outflow will weather it in due course.

OK, here are my photos taken last Sunday at the earth slip site between Smugglers and Sprey Point. The track relay of the Up line was well underway, although there had been some minor falls of debris from the bank, so this was also being tidied up by fellows on ropes. The Down line relay hadn't yet been started, so you can compare the condition of the slurry-clogged Down line with the new ballast and track on the Up.

This time I used the available transportation (there's no truth in the vicious rumour that some paint had rubbed off, revealing the former logo of 'Wessex Trains'... ;)

A pleasure to meet you Gary

Wish you joy if you have to negotiate the Kinskerswell road works on any trips to Paignton

Although coming Back from Torquay this eve, was surprised how cleanly it flowed

normally go the coast road, but Shaldon was snarled up earlier on the way down
