Dave F's photos - ongoing - more added each day

I have heard from Andy Y, he will investigate the issue tomorrow morning.

Many thanks for the replies in the last few minutes about the last 2 posts.

I hope everyone can see the photos in one from or another!

I think I'll go back to posting black and whites as JPEGs again (which is easier for me as well) and only use GIFs if we get more issues.

Good evening, David. Firstly, of the experimental photo’s, the first ones are back in red, the second set are normal, and in black and white. I’m on my iPad, using the Ghostery browser. I hope that may be of some help in what is clearly an ongoing issue/s.

Well, the replacement photo’s of Haresfield, from April 1972 and April 1973, are an excellent set. In C906, from April, 1972, that’s an interesting track machine.
The black and white photo’s, of Grantham, which I can see are all of interest, with the first one of A3, 60055, Woolwinder, on an up express passenger train in c1953, being a lovely three quarter shot of the engine and train.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

If you are seeing the JPEGs in red then I may need to post a set of each i.e. GIF and JPEG format.  Fir various reasons I do need to post some B/W photos at the moment.

I'm glad I don't have to find the cure - I had enough of solving software issues in my last years at work.

Thank you, David. Unfortunately I can only see those JPEG’s in red. But I am able to download them and change them into black and white, in photo’s on my iPad. But I’ll wait for Andy Y to see what he can find out tomorrow.

Best regards,

 Rob.

Oh dear. A new issue unfortunately. I have just tried to save one of the black and white GIFS, but cannot, whereas, earlier this week I could. But I can save the JPEG’s. I cannot explain that.

Best regards,

 Rob.

A couple of experimental posts.

First post: I'm repeating this afternoon's black and white photos as JPEGs - do they show up and are they red?

I was going to ask if that 120 had been in the platform for all the years between, but then saw the 104.

And a nice photo of the crossing gate being opened for road traffic. Not often photographed, and even rarer to see a place where the gate opened away from the track. Was it the same the other side of the line?

I thought that was going to be a hard question but it isn't as I remember the location, though this photo is one of Dad's.

The gate did open outwards on the other side.  In the photo you can't see it as it is already open, you can just see the top of its red lamp over the gatepost on the left on the far side of the track.

On the red photos:

ipad and Safari:

greyscale as expected for the GIFs e.g. JVol4124 from the post yesterday "experimental posts/second post",

but red for mono JPGs, e.g. JVol4124 from the post yesterday "experimental posts/first post"

desktop Mac and Safari: all greyscale as expected (both posts)

desktop Mac and Chrome: all greyscale as expected (both posts)

- can't find any mention of similar problems with an extensive google using suitable terms.

Good evening, David. Firstly, despite being away from RmWeb today until now, and hoping maybe absence would have cured the red issue, it hasn’t. It persists, and in most other threads too. So, thank you for saying what Andy Y has said and that you’ll post the black and white photo’s in both formats from now on.

So, the replacement photo’s of Fiskerton and Rolleston Junction on the Midland Railway  from Nottingham to Lincoln, are all gems, with  J1823, at Rolleston Junction, and the opening of the crossing gates, in August, 1969, showing that the gate that can be seen was a bit bowed. Interesting to see how the crossing keeper was wearing his cap too.

The random mixture of photo’s are an excellent selection, and that first photo’ at Chesterfield, with a class 47, 1643, on a down express passenger train in December, 1970, shows a scene with clear indications of track rationalisation, and the lamp in the left foreground helps to balance the composition of the photo’ very expertly.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Just a thought. I think David said that the monochrome photos were originally greyscale but the software changed them to colour, when they appeared to red to some people. The photo below is in RGB format, though a black and white photo. How does it appear to those who "see red"?

I don't think it needs a caption!
