I fully agree with the concept of making individual layouts with the intention to join them together at a later stage - I'm planning very much the same with mine.
You could even join Tredethy and Polbrock with a single plain line, just to increase the play value before the junction is built.
-
Sorry for any confusion, I was highlighting a recent example of a heritage line, where they were also running commercial freight.
The rake of old wagons was cited as an example of what you might consider on an overgrown sidings somewhere along your route.
-
Fitzgerald Lighting, of Walker Lanes Industrial Easte, Bodmin, used the B&W to ship fluorescent tubes down to Bodmin Parkway. There are still sidings next to the factory, now holding crippled tankers and a well-wagon, plus a few clay hoods.
I have several photos of these if required.

Well done to Jon for winning. After putting in my entry (of Wadebridge), I suddenly thought I remember seeing FS at Hayle one year, but obviously I was mistaken.
-
Well, I've had a go at this.....
-
Will you be adding the two catch points in the engine shed lines ?
Stu

Ah, thanks.
Do you use anything for 'mortar' ?
-
Do you paint the chads first, then cut them, or paint them once they are stuck on ?

All the best on your retirement !

Dates & venue might help with offers... Stu ( deepest Cornwall).
Ah - Saturday, November 14th, at Weston on Trent.

That cyclist didn't indicate, isn't carrying lights or even wearing a hard hat...
Mind you, the truck didn't indicate either...

If the checker building at Truro still exists and you need more photos or measurements, let me know. ( I live 3 miles away.)
-
The Railway Wagon Company of Furness ?
-
Another option might be to use a suitable grade of ballast.
-
I really like buildings in the 3rd last & last photos. A real challenge to model ( Scalescenes papers come to mind).
-
Two Wickham trolleys ?
-
A long wheel base low - loader type wagon, for oversize tank loads.
-
Yes I am - sorry to not post here sooner !!
-
Even with locos as dirty as that, would the numbers not have been cleaned ?

You might like to add a few posters on the wall either side of the shop advertising local bands.

Nice write up Simon, you've captured the enthusiasm of the team well.
Hopefully the RMweb issue will be an annual event, with other members keen to see the inner workings and watch Andy upset the designer !
( Good to see the bits in the mag we did play around with don't look too bad !)
-
You're right, Simon, it was a good day - I'm just waiting for the royalty cheque to arrive...
-
If the control track in my suggestion's image is also curved, the magnet will follow the required path.
-
From Southernboy's idea - Hand cranking would give you more control, if the wagon rolled beyond the magnet, you'd not be able to pull it back out again.
Another option is an uneven cranked mechanical arm, where the piece moved by hand is magnified in the movement of the magnet. (Will PM an image of the idea).

Couldn't get near this at the Helston show, so was nice to spend sometime watching, and being fascinated and impressed by the model buildings.
