Have you seen the way the track pops out of a tunnel through a huge hill, straight into a BLT?

The whole layout is totally implausible.

I mean to say: coal merchants using caves in a cliff face? Honestly!

Does anyone know of any models of Ventnor?

Ventnor 1966 by KDH Archive

Is see your Ventor, and raise you Bangor (North Wales):

Bangor station

(Kenneth Mason on Flickr)

Through station, view blocking tunnels at each end, through lines, platform loops, through and terminating trains, stabling sidings and a goods yard. What's not to like? (the lack of turntable and engine shed for the ultimate model railway perhaps!?)

It even still sees real trains!

Sorry for the rubbish pic, I’d just got off a unit heading the other way when this pulled in behind a 67.

There are still some stabling sidings too:

But I suspect you would need a rather bigger baseboard than Ventnor!

Are you sure Neil? The man that removed most of them (and has the sales receipts) was sat in my living room room just a few days ago. I've got the gauges out of it.

Fairly - was there more than one there? We were sort of 'encouraged' to take it at the time by a staff member.

Almost certainly the Grand National, in which case 30 March, with the race won by Red Alligator.

From the caption on Flickr:
“Grand National Day 30th of March 1968, Red Alligator won at 14-1 and D348 is on the 17.30 1L12 return service to Euston and D1736 is on the 1L17 17.40 to Coventry.”

The engine shed is there on the right of your photo.

I'd missed that! It even had a turntable:

I keep trying to get a modern picture here for the 'abandoned rails' thread. The pit has been turned into a seating area but there's always people in the way...

A few from the sequence just posted by Ernie Brack showing the lifting of the Farranfore-Valentia Harbour line (There seems to be disagreement as to whether the place is spelt Valentia or Valencia)

Yes it’s pretty busy down there these days!

One thing I’ve never been able to find is a photo of the old Alphington Road goods depot (near to where Iceland and Aldi are now). Never seen a picture of it anywhere…
