34027 is a performer. Travelled behind that from Brighton to Victoria one Christmas when they did three days of return trips with steam on that line. About 2003 or 4? Anyway, it was in the evening and we went through Gatwick Airport Station at full tilt with the whistle howling. The look of amazement from the gathered masses of what was probably mainly airport arrivals was brilliant. Loved it.

My Boss/bestie John used to own a quarter of it!  Sold it to buy a house.

Nah!, looks nothing like the real thing. If you come round to my house I'II show you a good time what real weathering is - you can't beat a bit of dirty turps splashed all over as our H'enry used to say,

Bogit & Phlogit (Ebay specialists)

Here's some real weathering  :onthequiet:

That is admittedly a very nice signal box.

I saw a few other nice boxes as I rode up the old GWR Northern main line. Quite a few of the larger ones are still standing. Most of them not in as good states of repair mind! Added bonus was we were loco hauled (Class 68).

So having taken No. 2 son to a LAN party for the weekend, I returned home to decide what to order from the local take-away. Only to find they were closed for the month. Plan B was to try the new 'Artisan' pizza van which now arrives in the village each Friday. But when I got there, it only serves vegan or veggie food...

Plan C was haricot beans with chipolatas in an Italian sauce on two squares of baked wheat.

Not entirely satisfactory.

Sherry and I found Wetherspoons in Camborne quite suitable for a late lunch yesterday. Pastie, beans and chips, for two, £9.99.

I have just noticed MIB's signature "There's no need to comb your hair, when it's grey and thinning."

It reminded me of my dad. I have no memory of my dad with full head of hair. He had a little act he would do relating to his hair cut if he thought someone was looking, strangers were his favorite. One example comes to mind, we were on a train and you know sometimes you can get a good reflection from the windows. Well he started to look at his reflection, he pretended to lick his finger and ran it over his eye brows. He then got out his comb to tidy his hair up. I say comb, it had about four teeth at each end all the middle ones were missing. He looked over at this lady with her kids, they were p**ing themselves with laughter and she was so embarrassed. He just smiled at her.

Couple of mile down the road and you would have found Philps in Hayle.............best pastie on the planet.

Not so easy when you arrive and depart by HST, visiting a well-known model shop. Quite a long day, even from Torquay. And we did try a town-centre pub first, had a pint and were the only customers, but he didn’t do food.

I had a wonderful pastie at the York show last weekend, it was so long both ends dangled over the edges of the plate and it tasted lovely. Yummy yummy.....

Ah. we're having pasties for dinner tomorrow (unless the catering dept changes her mind.  Proper job homemade pasties which show up all that shop bought stuff for what it really is although regrettably we couldn't find any beef skirt in Waitrose yesterday but there is some suitable steak in the freezer so I'm told.

Sample photo of previous pasty offerings from Mrs Stationmaster for those who are unfamiliar with them

O dear. How I miss these lovely items. Any GF pasties I have found have been naff.

Enough of this drooling, let's get down to some serious modelling.

Dear boys (and Sherry), have I heard somwhere that cheapo kitchen towel (paper) nicely dampened (oh er misses) can be good for creating 'layers' on certain types of scenery. I will probably use the old chooky wire method for huge lumps and bumps but I'm currently creating the Lay By Siding embankment wot is quite small in area.

Many thanks.

And you can increase its strength by soaking it briefly in a plaster solution instead of just water. That adds texture, too, and that always helps. Bits of expanded polystyrene - lightweight packaging material is ideal - can be the base to give your landscape an outline.

But do make sure you get it wet enough to let the glue/plaster (I used hydrocal) to soak into it properly because if you don't all you get is layers of dried out kitchen paper which finishes up later sort of delaminating if you touch it a bit hard.  But very useful used on top of still wet plaster bandage and top coated with brushed on hydrocal.
