Moderators AY Mod Posted February 2, 2022 Moderators Share Posted February 2, 2022 BACHMANN EUROPE UNVEIL FIRST NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2022 WITH SPRING 2022 BRITISH RAILWAY ANNOUNCEMENTS Following a busy and successful 2021, which saw the release of 12 brand new tooling projects from Bachmann Branchline, Graham Farish and Bachmann Narrow Gauge, Bachmann Europe Plc today kickstarted its new product announcements for 2022 with its Spring 2022 British Railway Announcements. Amongst the new models that are set for release in the coming months are several new tooling projects for both the Graham Farish N scale and the Bachmann Branchline OO scale ranges, alongside various new liveries and identities for existing models, and numerous additions to the Scenecraft range of hand-decorated, fully finished buildings, structures and accessories. In N scale, a model of one of Britain’s newest trains, the Class 769 Bi-Mode Multiple Unit, was unveiled by Graham Farish. Like the real units, the Graham Farish model shares many similarities with the company’s N scale Class 319 EMU, and features include a powerful coreless motor and flywheel, electrical pickup from all axles, an unobstructed interior including seat and table detail, integral conductive couplings between vehicles and functional multiple unit couplings at the outer ends. Directional and internal lighting is fitted along with an easy access Next18 DCC decoder socket with pre-fitted speaker. Graham Farish also unveiled new versions of the ubiquitous Class 08 Diesel Shunter, and these models have been treated to a new chassis which incorporates a DCC decoder socket for the first time, along with a speaker, allowing SOUND FITTED versions of each of the seven models arriving this Spring to be offered, in addition to the non-sound models. Following the release of the first of the all-new Bachmann Branchline OO scale Class 47s in late-2021 – including the SOUND FITTED DELUXE models which include twin motorised radiator fans and tinted windscreen glazing, both features that have been pioneered by Bachmann and are unique to the Branchline Class 47 among the models currently available on the British OO scale market – six further Class 47s were unveiled this Spring. New tooling from Bachman Branchline comes in the form of the Refurbished BR Mk2F Driving Brake Second Open Coach. Following on from the highly-acclaimed BR Mk2F Coaches, which included a model of the as-built DBSO, new tooling has been developed for the Refurbished vehicles and these are offered in BR InterCity Swallow, Anglia and Network Rail livery. Each model features interior, directional and central door locking lights, with an integral DCC decoder allowing independent control of the lighting features when used on DCC, whilst on analogue control the directional and interior lights can be enjoyed. New tooling has also been developed for the BR 12 Ton ‘Vanwide’ Ventilated Vans. These models share the same high level of detail as their more contemporary cousins the VEAs, with separately fitted door handles, door runners, lamp irons and chalk boards, plus a highly detailed chassis with separately fitted brake shoes, vacuum equipment and metal buffers. Optional brake pulls, safety straps and vacuum pipes are included too. Six versions make up the initial offering including two with an authentic weathered finish which features faded paintwork and markings. A further example of the Bachmann Narrow Gauge OO9 scale Ffestiniog Railway Double Fairlie locomotive, first launched in Winter 2021, was also announced, with Merddin Emrys now appearing in FR Lined Maroon livery – a SOUND FITTED version of which is also offered. Highlights from the Scenecraft range include a N scale Low Relief Multi Storey Car Park and High Street Store – finished as a branch of Beatties – and in OO scale the Great Central Signal Box makes a welcome return in two colour schemes. The iconic GWR Parachute Water Tower makes a fine addition to the growing number of O scale Scenecraft models. The full range of products unveiled today are featured in the Spring 2022 British Railway Announcements Catalogue, this catalogue is published exclusively with the Bachmann Times – the official magazine of the Bachmann Collectors Club – and Club members receive copies of all four British Railway Announcements catalogues each year. The Spring 2022 British Railway Announcements Catalogue is also included with the Bachmann Europe Model Railway Combined Volume 2022, copies of which are on their way to Bachmann Collectors Club members and will be available to purchase from Bachmann stockists soon. The Combined Volume also features continuing lines and items that are still in stock, plus forthcoming items from previous years’ announcements which are yet to arrive – projected release dates for many of which can be found at www.bachmann.co.uk. 31-635B GWR 64XX Pannier Tank 6414 GWR Green (GWR) £139.95 31-639 GWR 64XX Pannier Tank 6421 BR Lined Green (Early Emblem) £139.95 32-131A GWR 4575 Prairie Tank 5526 GWR Green (Great Western) £164.95 32-132 GWR 45XX Prairie Tank 4571 BR Lined Green (Early Emblem) £164.95 32-931 Class 150/1 2-Car DMU 150149 Northern Rail £309.95 32-931SF Class 150/1 2-Car DMU 150149 Northern Rail £409.95 35-412 Class 47/7 47712 ‘Lady Diana Spencer’ BR ScotRail £239.95 35-412SF Class 47/7 47712 ‘Lady Diana Spencer’ BR ScotRail £339.95 35-412SFX Class 47/7 47712 ‘Lady Diana Spencer’ BR ScotRail £369.95 35-414 Class 47/4 47435 BR Blue £239.95 35-414SF Class 47/4 47435 BR Blue £339.95 35-414SFX Class 47/4 47435 BR Blue £369.95 35-415 Class 47/7 47711 ‘Greyfriars Bobby’ BR Blue (Large Logo) £239.95 35-415SF Class 47/7 47711 ‘Greyfriars Bobby’ BR Blue (Large Logo) £339.95 35-415SFX Class 47/7 47711 ‘Greyfriars Bobby’ BR Blue (Large Logo) £369.95 35-421 Class 47/4 47526 BR Blue (Large Logo) [W] £254.95 35-421SF Class 47/4 47526 BR Blue (Large Logo) [W] £354.95 35-421SFX Class 47/4 47526 BR Blue (Large Logo) [W] £384.95 35-430 Class 47/3 47376 ‘Freightliner 1995’ Freightliner Grey [W] £254.95 35-430SF Class 47/3 47376 ‘Freightliner 1995’ Freightliner Grey [W] £354.95 35-430SFX Class 47/3 47376 ‘Freightliner 1995’ Freightliner Grey [W] £384.95 35-432 Class 47/7 47790 ‘Galloway Princess’ DRS Compass (Original) £239.95 35-432SF Class 47/7 47790 ‘Galloway Princess’ DRS Compass (Original) £339.95 35-432SFX Class 47/7 47790 ‘Galloway Princess’ DRS Compass (Original) £369.95 39-735DC BR Mk2F DBSO (Refurb.) TomScrut
Very pleased with the Network Rail DBSO, I am almost certain to get my hand in my pocket for that! £150 is quite a lot but it is DCC fitted and will have 15% off from the start making it £127.50. I think most of the people wanting one of these would rather it was this price than not done at all. 47712 looks good, I might bite it just depends on what else is going on when they turn up. I am pleased it is in "as preserved" condition. 47790 looks amazing but is too early for me, same for the Northern 150 (but I appreciate they have just done a white Northern 150).

GordonC
Its nice to see Class 47s and 150s appearing at a faster pace to make more liveries available. The 47712 looks good, for me I would have preferred another one of the originals in Scotrail livery, but can understand why its been produced again with the real one getting around

No Decorum
Something of a relief that there isn’t a newly tooled steam tender locomotive. The loco-tender connection on the V2 has been much criticised and perhaps a breathing space will give Bachmann a chance to re-think.

RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted February 2, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 2, 2022 (edited) The earliest Vanwide is right on the cusp for me, the first of them having been turned out in 1962. However, the new underframe will allow Bachmann to produce models of late batches (1957-on) of their existing versions of BR vans, Conflats etc. John Edited February 2, 2022 by Dunsignalling 1
toolongtoremember
I like the new DBSOs, bur £150 is a bit steep. Maybe I'll just take one. 1 2
KymN
I don't want to be negative, but my interest is in the quaint and curious, I had hoped to see some progress in the 009 range for example. Bachmann has done well with the fairly modern image. But it seems that they need the likes of Rails and Locomotion to produce older stuff. 1

I think you are very much mistaken that steam is declining. I've been hearing stuff like that since the 1970s. Jason 2

I think it's to do with the natural ebb and flow with the competition rather than a longer term trend. Right now early and late crest popularity is definitely lesser than it was, however pre-grouping is arguably better catered for than ever. I can certainly see BR steam coming back into popularity it's just been done to death. BR blue / modern image have been under represented for years. Hornby have also been churning out new tender locos at a heck of a rate over the past few years with a couple of exceptions. I would also say that the current trend towards working lights and fans is arguably slightly more inclined towards diesel and electric locos. As water based steam technology comes on I'm sure we'll start to see retools / new tools of new locomotives as there's a good USP over the ok models already in the range. I'd really like Bachmann to focus on the LMS/LNER and based on the 812 anything pregrouping. 2

We’ve had the J72 , MR1532, 94xx and V2 in recent times as solo Bachmann main range offerings plus transition era versions of all the relevant diesel classes. Plenty of interest in this market both from Bachmann and the other manufacturers and by and large they seem to selling. Surely it is merely a case of clearing the backlog of models?? 3 previously announced new toolings have recently been delivered. Everything is kept under wraps these days so there could be a new steam model literally being manufactured as we speak
RMweb Premium E100 Posted February 2, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 2, 2022 (edited) Thankfully nothing for me in these announcements. My wallet can feel the sigh of relief. Some really great examples of 47's. Very surprised to see the lack of DRS DBSO for the collectors club. I'm sure that will come along with the mk2f's in anglia. They could really do with another run of blue grey mk2f TSO's alongside a full Scotrail rake now we have the 47's to go with this. We get a smaller snapshot of what is new to market compared to an annual announcement. Therefore it is not really possible to easily draw too many conclusions about how the market is moving. You need to look at a wider span of data. 1
