No longer available!

Is this because the seller took the 20k bid or perhaps the contents leaked out?

Withdrawn because he didn't think it was the appropriate time, after the death of the concert go-er.

The big problem recently is deleting something I have submitted if I think it adds nothing to a debate or if I decide I cannot be assed afterall. RMweb goes into treacle or an SQL pink page appears, then by the time I have got back on RMweb to delete it, someone has read my entry and decided to respond. Browsing is the best option at the minute.

Note the "similar to Flying Scotsman" claim. I leave it up to you to judge, natch......

IMHO, any similarity in appearance is limited to the method of propulsion, wheel arrangement and gauge. As far as I am aware, Flying Scotsman was not built by The American Locomotive Company, either.

Simliar to the Flying Scotsman in the same way that I am simliar to Tom Cruise, we both have two legs but that is about it (Oh and I am just tall enough to be USAF fighter pilot unlike him!! :jester: )

I have actually seen one of these on sale a few years back.in this country, at about £65 IIRC. I can confirm it's about 0 gauge/scale and would appear to be a scaled up copy of the Rivarossi USRA heavy pacific (which was also available in this livery -US Southern Railway - based on the UK Southern livery I understand. I understand that only part of the boiler is the actual handset*.

I suggested buying it, but SWMBO said no.... Can't imagine why!

I suppose to those who have little no interest in trains ( strange :scratchhead: ), it looks like the Scotsman - green and roughly (very) the same same shape.

EDIT I didn't notice the second picture that shows this to be the case.

When Flying Scotsman was here in Australia, Mrs Kevinlms and I went for a ride on it. With parallel running with a Victorian Railways R Class on the 5'3" gauge, in this colour scheme.

When we got the photos back, she asked, how could I tell the difference between them!

Speechless and women are supposedly more observant!

I'm surprised anyone thinks this is worth £46 + p&p

It's not badly done, but these should be plain black and 31339 looked like this:

A bit puzzled by this "31339 was one of 4 introduced in 1938" when in fact all 13 R1s had been rebuilt in SECR days, i.e. before 1923.

SWMBO says all wagons look the same! Almost as absurd as the claim that all Great Western locomotives look the same! :O

It's the boring green that does it! Inflicted on many non GWR locos too in BR days, an example being the R1 linked to later.

I thought the only variation of GWR locos were the number/type/size of wheels. One thing that never changed, was the endless string of loco names, named after various buildings, located within a set radius of one of their railway lines.

:O

Don't get too upset guys, I'm only joking.

I was too! I thought perhaps he was referring to modifications for the Canterbury and Whitstable line, but the numbers quoted don't tally. There were also 13 rebuilds not 12.

I seem to recall when checking that 31337 is correct* for the HD/Wrenn model, but 31340 is not (ignoring the bilious green and the smokebox number being 31337 for both versions (later corrected by omission). Why they couldn't get the wheelbase right considering it was an all new chassis, I can't imagine. Surely new coupling rod stampings weren't all that expensive.

*Sandboxes - several locos had these below the running plate.

Everything looks good in GWR livery* - even the LMS biased early BR management knew that, though they did inflict CR livery on the class 8P and LNWR livery on the mixed traffic locos. Boring green?? :O :nono:

*I will concede that black and silver suits diesels (as on 10000/1 originally)
