The first New Tooling announcement for Graham Farish depicts the iconic LMS ‘Twins’ Nos. 10000 and 10001. The ‘Twins’ were the first mainline diesel locomotives built in Britain and this iconic duo is now reproduced in N scale for the first time. The impressive specification for the new Graham Farish model includes a coreless motor with twin flywheels driving all axles, al-wheel electrical pick-up, a Next18 DCC decoder interface and pre-fitted speaker, and SOUND FITTED options for every model. The models are fitted with working headcode marker lights at each end, with the option to select either passenger or freight headcodes – with additional headcodes available when used on DCC. Cab lights are also available to DCC users whilst the directional lights can be turned off at each end when operated on both DCC and Analogue Control.

The ‘Twins’ operated between 1947 and 1966 and the Graham Farish models depict both locomotives at various point in their careers, including the modifications that were made when the pair were trailed on the Southern Region – the fitting of two additional lamp brackets and marker lights at each end. Water scoops were also fitted later on, and this is another option catered for on these the new N scale models.

The second New Tooling for N scale this Spring comes in the form of the South Eastern & Chatham Railway ‘Dance Hall’ Brake Van which follows the success of the OO scale models of this prototype. These 25 Ton Good Brake vehicles were nicknamed ‘Dance Halls’ due to the spacious cabins provided for the guard and this new Graham Farish model captures all the hallmarks of the prototype, from the finely-moulded planked body to the prominent handrails which are separate metal components fitted to the model. On the chassis, the long footboards are separately fitted, and brake gear has also been included on the underside of the model. The Graham Farish ‘Dance Hall’ will be available in four liveries, each with a choice of two running numbers and includes the sole-surviving example of this particular ‘Dance Hall’ type – No. 11902 which is preserved at the Whitwell & Reepham Railway.

Well that was a bit underwhelming unless you have been desperately wanting an LMS twin (or two).

Cannot believe they have trotted out the old Poole era Mk3 tooling!!!

Slightly odd with the return of the old Mk3 which appear to lack an interior, the Dapol ones are superior models.

The HEA is the old tool, nice wagon but probably due for a refresh.

However, I think I will be purchasing 10001

A new hi spec model of a class of 2 diesels including their differences and a new tooling break van.

OK not a lot of reliveries but this follows a couple of bumper n gauge quarters

Clearly still committed to n so underwhelming is possibly unfair.

A "Twin" will definitely be coming my way, I am gobsmacked, realistically I never thought we would see these produced RTR in N so I am delighted. They tick a lot of boxes in terms or route usage and also I would think as a "collector's" piece. Plus, with a replica one being recreated one could even be "creatively" justified on a preserved railway today.

I think my choice will be 10001 sound fitted in the later livery with yellow panel but very hard to decide....

Old tooling MK3's really. These are so much worse than the Dapol models.

Interesting choice with the LMS twins however.

Hi all,

Wow - way out of my era but the LMS twins look a bit tasty.  Well done Farish!

The Poole era Mk3s seem an odd choice, but they seem to have printed a raised rim around the windows which improves the appearance.

I had hoped they might retool the underframe of the HEA family of wagons as the solebar is too deep - I think this was a miscalculation made when the wagons were originally tooled about 20 years ago.

cheers

£69.95 RRP for a twin pack.  Price reflective of older tooling, but still.......

Very odd decision to trot out the Poole Mk.3s but I'm sure people will find a use for them!

The LMS twins look superb, definitely a rule 1 purchase but that black & sliver livery will be hard to resist, and nice to see more new tooling with those and the Dance Hall.

Absolutely delighted to see the LMS twins announced. I will certainly have a pair in the green livery, as I saw regularly in the early '60s at Euston.

Mind you, if I can squeeze the funds, I'll have all 5 !

There wasn't a massive amount in any scale apart from the 31 of course - reflective of the time of year especially with Chinese New Year eating into production schedules.  After seeing the OO Peaks did wonder if there might be a hint for N, but no it was the Twins of which I will be buying 10001.

So rather than do another run of MK2s in blue/gey, which they haven't done in eight!! years, they've decided to drag out the old MK3 sleeper tooling duplicating a competitor's superior version and producing models that I guarantee will be in the bargain bins within six months. *sigh*

Genuinely surprised not to see more class 47 liveries announced, but as other have said CNY will reduce capacity over this quarter.

I also thought there might be some new liveries for the Polybulk and TEA tanker, the former via collectors club or regional exclusive.

Didn't think we'd see old tooling dug up, though the PGA was announced as part of a set last time.

Will pick up the Intercity charter Mk1 FOs once in the bargain bins......

LMS 10000 is very tempting...must resist

Dance Hall brake was one that I've been hoping for ... one (modified) Engineer's version made it as far as Mallaig Jct yard in the 80s.

Also pleased to see the Mk1 FOs to complete a West Highlander tour train as the white roofed BCK that I bought a few years ago looks a bit lonely !

Perhaps an opportunity for Revolution, HBAs, HEAs, RNAs, HSAs, CEAs, MEAs, MFAs.........?

In some respects yes, but if the twin pack is priced at £60 then after the "usual" 15% discount that is £51 or £25.50 a coach which is considerably less than more recently tooled models like the Thompsons and Mk1s so while I may be completely wrong, it possibly represents positioning some lower spec products at a lower price-point?

Whilst not a lot after a bumper 2023 I think the big thing to take from this is the Twins, they represent a significant investment in tooling that presents a limited return - how many people here will buy more than 2? My Dad is suggesting getting one each between us, so we won't be rushing for a 2nd pair even in on the other colour.

Yes they could have chosen a more numerous type a new 37 perhaps with sound etc. but we have seen an investment into a limited appeal model that is usually the domain of OO models. I think we can safely say all this talk of Bachmann not investing into N gauge is untrue now as the last few announcements have shown otherwise.

Yes there is still gaps - I need some more Mk2 or Mk2A TSO's, a 37/4 in intercity, OTA Timber wagons amongst others, but I am happy to see the twins as part of the range. Now if there is a market for them perhaps the designers could look at those SDJR 7F 2-8-0 drawings they used for the OO one and put it through the shrink ray 🤞

Twins are a fantastic announcement, no use for me personally but it's good to see investment in more niche prototypes.

On the other hand, what are they thinking bringing back the Poole Mk3s now!? They work out just £2 cheaper per vehicle than the most recently announced Dapol offerings, but even with the better decoration the only real justification I see is having the correct window layouts for the Riviera set as it is. If they'd added anything to modernise the model at all, NEM sockets perhaps, I'd probably be less confused.

Still a fairly good announcement for Spring overall, I just wish the video format was a bit less waffle-y and repetitive. I'd much rather quick fire announcements and separate videos for the 'big' products, rather than 15 minutes of talk about one product/range.

Going to have to buy the twins!  Quick question for those that know these things.  Would 10001 with small yellow panels have run with 10000 in lined green or had 10000 been withdrawn before 10001 was repainted?
